Reviewed: 2004 Pontiac GTO

2dr Coupe 350-horsepower 5.7L V8 6-speed manual RWD

Why the 2004 Pontiac GTO?

Powertrain performance

Available LS-1 engine with 6 speed manual for an engaging driving experience. Comfortable for a daily driver, but it really screams when you want to go.

Handling

Tight handling, but a bit on the heavy side

Front seat support & comfort

Great seats with excellent cushioning and side bolsters

Safety & braking

Brake performance is very strong and the first set of pads lasted over 50k miles

Materials & workmanship

Put together really well by Holden in Australia. Zero fit/finish complaints

Why Not the 2004 Pontiac GTO?

Fuel economy

13-15 mpg around town on short trips. Much better on the highway, up to about 26 mpg.

Cargo capacity

The trunk is very small because the gas tank was moved to comply with US crash requirements.

Audio & nav systems

Audio system is very basic with no auxiliary inputs. Nav system unavailable. Replaced with an ipod compatible aftermarket unit.
