After buying it pre-owned and now owning it for nearly six years, I still LOVE to drive it. As I wrote above, I have driven many sports cars. The Porsche Boxster is one that I never tire of driving. Some cars you climb into and sit in, with the Boxster, driving it is like becoming part of the car. It just plain "feels right."
The Boxster's handling is simply remarkable. Nimble, agile, quick, and superbly balanced. I've driven lots of sports cars and "sporty cars," but nothing compares. When we were shopping almost 6 yrs ago, we test drove a BMW Z4 and the Boxster on the same afternoon. My wife and I were sold on the Boxster immediately. Compared with the Boxster, the Z4 felt heavy and sluggish.
Hard to believe, right? But when comparing 2-seat roadsters, the Boxster's TWO trunks put other roadsters to shame.
Although "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," in my opinion (and those of many people who have commented to me on the road), the Porsche Boxster's design is sleek and timeless.
Wonderful. And mine isn't even an "S" model. But for me, being able to do 104 mph in second gear without redlining is performance enough.
The braking is among the best in the industry, but you can read the stats about that. The handling and balance, and "avoidance maneuver" ability make it a terrifically safe sports car.
This is both a con and a pro. It isn't a quiet car such as you'd expect from Cadillac. Its soft top doesn't shield out road noise when it's up, and certainly not when it's down. But, oh boy, that engine sound -- sweet!
The driving position is excellent. The visibility with the top up is not great.
If you love to drive and appreciate meticulous performance, you'd love a Porsche Boxster. If you simply want to own a "name brand," don't get one. These are sports cars for people who really love driving and a precision machine.
Also, they are expensive, but you don't need me to tell you that. On the other hand, my Boxster was 12 years old this model year (2014), has over 60,000 miles on it, and has had only regular maintenance. (knock on wood).
