Why the 2012 Scion iQ?

Handling

The IQ has extremely responsive steering and handling. I recently avoided an accident with a large 4 X 4, and was impressed with the car's maneuverability.

Audio & nav systems

This is the first blue-tooth compatible radio I've had in a car---and it is VERY nice. All models come with it. The speaking mic is located on the steering column, and the caller comes through the car's speakers.

Powertrain performance

I've read some "professional" reviews that complained about the CVT transmission. It is definitely noisy during rapid acceleration, but the shifting is VASTLY superior to the Smart car. It is quite smooth actually.

Interior styling

This car is 5 inches wider than the Smart, and its an impressive 5 inches. Everything is larger including the 16 cubic feet of rear storage (with rear seats folded down). Don't be fooled by the advertised 4 seats. The car is made for TWO people.

Exterior styling

The styling is nice, and the "wide stance" is not only attractive---it adds lots of stability.

Why Not the 2012 Scion iQ?

Interior styling

The car is VERY comfortable for two people, even on two hour trips, but to use all four seats one of the passengers needs to be an amputee, and the other a midget. Buy the Yaris instead.

Driving position & visibility

The seat height is not adjustable (like the Yaris) so I added a cushion to the seat. (I'm 5"10", old and wrinkly.)

Cargo capacity

The only glove-box is located under the passenger seat. A plastic pull-out piece of junk. And not so much as a cubby hole in the front, other than a pocket on each door that doubles as a cup holder.

Brand reputation & image

Scion is really a Toyota, and its made in Toyota City, Japan. This car sounds much heavier, as when the doors are closed. It's very sturdy.
