Why the 2005 Scion tC?

Exterior styling

Although a first-generation tC, it still looks "current". Panoramic moonroof is a nice standard feature. Stock 17" rims are very nice for a car in this price class.

Rear seat room & comfort

Seat fabric is very rough and stains are unusually difficult to remove, but the fabric is at least durable. Rear seat is split folding, and also reclines. Rear seat is actually usable (have a child seat installed back there), panoramic moonroof is nice.

Cargo capacity

Being a hatchback, this thing can hold its share of stuff, as long as it isn't tall. Bicycle fits in without removing the front wheel.

Tires

Stock tires are horrible in winter. 17" low-profile tires have a decent amount of road noise, and need replacing faster than "regular" tires.

Materials & workmanship

This has been an excellent car, with some minor issues. I purchased it brand new in late 2004 and it is still my daily driver at just over 101k. I hope to keep it a little longer.

Why Not the 2005 Scion tC?

Powertrain performance

5-speed manual is geared very low, which is great for low-end torque, kills fuel economy on the highway (that has been remedied by the 2nd gen tC's 6-speed manual)
