Reviewed: 2008 Subaru Forester

4dr SUV 173-horsepower 2.5L H4 5-speed manual AWD

Why the 2008 Subaru Forester?

Fuel economy

Much better than expected -- averaging about 28 mpg, which is awesome for a small SUV.

Safety & braking

Very solid, very secure. Downside is the lack of side curtain airbags, which was addressed in the 2009 Forester.

Reliability & durability

Subaru is great for cold-weather climates and snowy roads -- I never worry about getting stuck anywhere.

Handling

It responds and goes where I want it to go. Tight steering, responsive wheel.

Why Not the 2008 Subaru Forester?

Feature availability

They do not offer more legroom in the back seat. Front passenger seat is ok, but not if you have someone in the back. We got the sport package w/the sunroof, and I love it. Could use better placement of aux port and 12V plug in the armrest console.

Dealer practices

Subaru dealers in northern New England will strong-arm you into deals...reputation around here is such. They know the brand has a high reputation and they take advantage of that.
