2009 Suzuki SX4 Pros and Cons at TrueDelta: The Underrated Crossover by 7MJoe
Do you want a car that no longer has dealer support in the United States? Do you want to own a car that nobody knew existed? Do you like hatchbacks? What about different shades of plastic?
Well, the Suzuki SX4 is for you. My 2009 was born into a world pushing further and further towards a state of always being connected. Unfortunately this state didn't remain outside of cars, and now infotainment systems, and Bluetooth, and GPS, and just about everything else you can think of that your tablet does and you cellphone does now exists in your car. Is this a problem? Not necessarily, but what I love most about my Suzuki is the fact that it A CAR and not something I can browse Facebook with. Cars are for driving, not social media.
There are no frills when driving an SX4. When you sit down on the firm yet decently supportive seats of an SX4 you know what you're getting into. You turn the key and go. You don't have any distractions. You get everything you need to commute and road trip in such a small package. Did I mention it absolutely rocks in the snow?
The engine wants to be wound out and has a nice purr at higher RPMS. I've kept up on regular maintenanceand it's never left me stranded. There is some aftermarket support out there and relatively small, tight knit community of enthusiasts to help with any issues you might encounterthough I wouldn't count on it.
The SX4 is a great little car that gets average MPGs. The overall build and finish are great, and the driving experience is one that I honestly wish still existed in more cars. If you have a chance to pick up this little car, don't hesitate. You'll be happy you did.
You get what would be considered "average" in terms of fuel economy. I usually get anywhere from 27/29mpgs on a tank. Thought it doesn't cost much to fill up, the small gas tank on these cars means you'll fill up at least once a week.
The only other thing to consider is that there is no longer a dealership base to really turn to for those of you not interested in getting your hands greasy or going to a local shop. While most dealers that sold Suzukis still exist, you're going to have a hard time finding one that actually has any Tech that's certified for Suzukis.
I really wish more people knew about this car and the lineup Suzuki offered before leaving. The SX4 is a great little car for your college-bound student or for someone who just wants something cheap to get back and forth to work in. Seriously, if you can find one used they sell for next to nothing.
