I bought this car for 31K in November 2016, because they dropped the price so much after the '17's came out, and I didn't want the "new" transmission in the '17.

The Pilot is the obvious main competitor. The Honda's tires look tall and skinny, which makes the appear to be hanging over the wheels too much. The Pilot is also much more slab-like. I prefer the sweeping lines of the Highlander, as well as it's more sturdy stance. The rear spoiler looks good, too.
If you simply had a big family, the Pilot might be a really good choice. But, if you like more of a muscular style, and if you like the sound of engines, the Highlander is the right choice between the two.
