Introduction

There is a lot to like on the Eos with some of its features making it unique in the marketplace. It is a fun in the sun car.

Why the 2012 Volkswagen Eos?

Handling

18" wheels with low profile tires and sport suspension give the Executive trim level excellent handling.

Exterior styling

Inclusion of a panoramic sunroof on hardtop convertible makes the Eos unique. The Bi-Xenon adaptive lighting really helps visibility at night when driving on curvey roads.

Audio & nav systems

Dynaudio sound system is powerful enough to provide clean sound at high speeds with the top down and is one of the best sounding systems I have heard. Ability to play MP3s from SD cards is an added plus. Navigation shows map on full display but directions and turns right in front of driver.

Discounts & incentives

Combination of 0% financing and free 3 year 36,000 mile scheduled service made it more affordable.

Controls and instruments

Controls are laid out intuitively providing all needed functions while retaining a clean look. It is easy for a new driver to figure out all functions and locations of buttons.

Why Not the 2012 Volkswagen Eos?

Reliability & durability

Beginning 1,000 miles after I took delivery, I had problems with entry access and recognition of key that took 4 times back at the dealer before they were resolved. The problems did get resolved on the 4th time back permanently, and since then the car has been trouble free.

Rear seat room & comfort

The back seat is not comfortable and has limited leg room. While the latter may be typical of some convertibles, leg room is less than on previous convertibles I have owned.

Fuel economy

I have averaged 27.3 MPG since new which in itself is not bad but the engine requires a minimum of 91 octane fuel. Based on availability that makes it require 93 octane fuel. If the added fuel cost is considered that effectively makes fuel cost the same as a car averaging 25 MPG using 87 octane fuel. Most of my driving is highway and I do not view this as economical for a 2 liter 4. My other car has a 35% more powerful engine and is both larger and heavier but has lower fuel cost.

Quietness

Having previously owned a soft top convertible, I expected this would be quieter but it is not at most speeds.
