Why the 2007 Volkswagen GTI?

Exterior styling

Tight body lines and close panel fit coupled with a lack of supurfulous add-ons make for a subtly aggressive appearance.

Powertrain performance

Even with a 200hp/207lb torque turbo engine there is nearly no lag and an absence of torque steer. The extremely flat torque curve allows for easy passing. Probably the best compromise of power, mpg, and comfort available.

Interior styling

High quality soft touch plastics, carefully matched colors and textures, brushed aluminum trim, leather, and a hidden passenger airbag seam all contribute to very upscale non-contrived ambiance and a pleasant place to spend time.

Safety & braking

Six airbags, stability control, traction control, brake force distribution, and ABS along with the handling and power make for a very secure feeling vehicle.

Handling

Steering feel and feedback are probably the best in any front drive car available. The suspension is firm but compliant at the same time.

Why Not the 2007 Volkswagen GTI?

Color choices

Current color choices for North America are limited to white, red, grey, & black. Europe, however, has nine colors available.

Quietness

There is quite a lot of road noise transmitted through the body to the interior. Granted, much can be attributed to the summer tires and the worn concrete paving in this area.

Ride smoothness

As with any vehicle with a shorter wheelbase, the ride tends to become "choppy" along concrete segments and worn roads. Some of this could be remedied by the 17" wheel/tire combo instead of the 18" combo I have.
