Fuel economy
Around town, this vehicle averages roughly 37-39 mpg- not too shabby. However, one must consider the skyrocketing price of diesel fuel into this equation...
Handling
The "German engineering" of this vehicle provides excellent handling for a little car.
Reliability & durability
The diesel engine is proven and will last a very long time if properly maintained- which does add to the expense of the vehicle in the long run. It appears to be well built and sound, in comparison to some other makes of vehicles I have ridden in.
Insurance cost
The jetta holds its value which can be a double edged sword as far as insurance goes, the price obviously doesnt drop, but for resale, it holds it doesnt depreciate as severely as other vehicles in its class.
Rear seat room & comfort
Its not very spacious, especially if your passengers are over 150 lbs.
Price or payments
Volkswagen isnt known for its inexpensive vehicles, and they do not bicker with pricing, it is what it is, and if you dont buy it, someone else will...
Quietness
Its a diesel motor- do I have to state the obvious? It is going to knock a little more than a gas engine, and you can hear the turbo whine- which frankly, I enjoy listening to. But dont expect the quietness that the nissan totes in its commercials.
Dealer practices
I have rarely found a dealership that I truly trust to care for and properly maintain my vehicles- they leave marks on the interior, move the seat around- all the normal pesky things about dealerships.
