Why the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta?

Powertrain performance

Much horsepower/torque from not much motor. DSG transmission awesome. Fuel economy incredible for amount of performance available.

Materials & workmanship

It has an interior befitting a vehicle 2x its price. Everything lines up, works smoothly and intuitively and looks good in the process.

Controls and instruments

Everything falls to hand for proper driving technique. Things that should be automated are, things that should not be are not.

Handling

Well damped and balanced. Higher speed - more feel through the controls. Very sure-footed in inclement weather.

Why Not the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta?

Price or payments

Somewhat expensive for its vehicle class. Depreciation is steeper than expected. Parts prices can be scary.

Exterior styling

Too bland. Very well executed, but somewhat boring. Resembles many other cars on the road these days.

Depreciation

Depreciation is fairly steep for this version based on earlier model generations.

Color choices

Not nearly enough. Very few bright colors.

Feature availability

Having to take a hugely expensive package to get one particular option (for example - HID headlights required Pkg 3 in 2006).
