Why the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta?

Fuel economy

Exceptionally consistent. Even with auto, it gets between 42 and 45 mpg routinely. I drive efficiently, but it still can pull up sizeable hills at speed while carrying a considerable load.

Ride smoothness

Very tight and put together - to a point. Past its limits, it gets very "wallowy", but is not something most people will encounter. The 6 speed DSG transmission is amazingly smooth. First gear, though is very jerky and hard to control.

Handling

Comfortable and tight. Refined over bumps.

Exterior styling

I like the slight curves over the hood much better than the present day jetta (out in 2011).
