Tech advised timing chain tensioner was on it’s last legs and could fail anytime with catastrophic results. Have read many Audi/VW blogs indicating this has been a big problem with their otherwise excellent 4 cyl. Engine. Didn’ t Do the repair. Traded it on a 2018 Q5. |
47000 mi | Oil Separator. All were under warranty. |

It started out with rough idling when stopped at traffic lights without any warning signs/messages. I had to rev it up to keep the engine from stalling. Took it to the dealer, they said that the cam shaft was loose. They replaced the cam shaft, timing chain tensioner, cam bridge. Still having same problem, but now some check engine code showed up. They looked at it again and found out that one of the cylinder had very low compression. They opened it up and saw piston/cylinder #1 was damaged, and suggested engine replacement. Repairs covered under extended warranty. I suspected that the tensioner cause the problem in the first place, but since it's a known problem with 2.0T engine with previous model years, but they don't want to admit it. |
