Road debris damage of supercharger radiator. Replaced, and flush and fill radiator. There was a TSB from Audi 4 years ago (TSB 2034439/2) that identified the potential for a rock to enter through the tiny slits (2”) in the base of the A6 grill. They then provided a free plastic inside intercooler radiator cover to try an prevent the damage. I received that TSB. However it was not enough to prevent this from occurring. Arguably it could be considered a design issue. I am annoyed that even after getting the TSB, I still got the issue and had to pay $1600 for the repair.

Catalytic converter snapped off from engine. It was a clean break therefore the shop was able to weld it back together. Saved about $1,000. Part alone was going to be 950. According to dealer this happens quite often which begs the question why the hell Audi doesn't do something about it.

Two (plastic!) coolant bleeder screws were broken and leaking near the supercharger. Had to be tapped out, remnants of plastic in threads removed, and new screws installed. After the repair, oil usage increased dramatically (1 qt every 200 miles or less!). Couldn't get back to shop to have them address for a few months, then went on a one-month long trip during which the car just sat. After sitting for that month, oil consumption has fallen to nearly 900 miles last time I checked. Quite bizarre!

US $476
Replaced all four TPMS sensors after the tire pressure and TPMS warning lights were illuminated. My VAG-COMM tool showed that the batteries had failed or was extremely low in my TPMS sensors. Actually, thinking about it, I probably should have replaced the TPMS sensor in the spare tire as well. NOTE: Repair was originally done by Discount Tire with HUF universal TPMS sensors. This did not correct the problem. The TPMS warning light continued to be displayed after the installation of the new sensors. Subsequently, replaced the universal TPMS sensors with Audi brand sensors. This corrected the problem. The "universal TPMS sensors" do not seem to be compatible with the Audi A6.
115500 mi

US $350
After having the 115K service performed by an independent Audi mechanic, the ESP, EPC, and CEL (blinking) lights became illuminated on the drive back home. I returned to the independent Audi repair shop. The owner of the Audi shop (an Audi expert) checked the car out. He did not find any reason for the ESP, EPC, and CEL fault. However, he suggested that the ignition coils be replaced. The ignition coils were replaced at cost with no labor charge as a courtesy for the inconvenience of having to return to the shop After having the ignition coils replaced by the independent Audi mechanic, the EPC, EPS, and CEL (blinking) lights came back on the way back home. The vehicle was then taken to the Audi deal for analysis of the codes. The dealer kept the vehicle for several days, but could not any reason for the codes. I was charged $300. This was essentially, a $100 charge to troubleshoot each code separately. Although I explained that the warning lights all came on at the same time, the service adviser indicated that they needed to troubleshoot each code separately. Later, the service adviser claimed that the time that the mechanic spent trying to diagnose the problem was easily double the amount that I paid. The car was returned to me without the mechanic at the dealer finding any problem. The codes were reset by the mechanic and did not occur again while the car was at the dealership.
115474 mi

EPC, ESP, and CEL (blinking) lights became illuminated again. Car was towed to the independent Audi repair shop. Battery indicator lit which turned out to be a bad alternator. Occurred 150 miles from home and dealer gouged me while remaining professional and pleasant. While on the lift for the alternator (and battery) replacement, mechanic noticed a torn CV boot (so they say). While on the lift getting problems 1 and 2 resolved, mechanic claims that cooling system was also leaking and needed $1,100 in non-descript repairs. I refused this having no prior symptoms. No coolant problem has emerged since (1,000 miles)!!

Self-dimming LCD interior mirror failed and fluid drained out, rendering self-dimming feature inoperable. Shop replaced. Climate control blower motor had begun making noise but still operated. I suspected failing bearings ands eventual complete seizure so I had it replaced. Auxiliary electric coolant pump was found leaking during timing belt replacement and so was replaced. Also replaced all idler rollers , tensioner and main water pump during t-belt service, which is a regular maintenance item. Shop broke the windshield while trying to replace the mirror, so they replaced it at their cost (after I argued with them about 'sharing' the cost!). An oil smell (faint) could be detected inside car and while at the shop for the other service, they found both valve covers leaking. Both gaskets were replaced. While in the shop for other service, mechanic also noticed that plastic coolant tank was leaking and replaced.
