ABS / antitheft problem. The ABS is not functioning, it shows ABS / ETS fault. Needs to replace the ABS valve/main module. Also the steering column actuator is faulty, symptoms are that you can't turn on the ignition or start the car. Happens from time to time, you don't know when. My solution is to leave the key in the ignition and lock the car with the spare key, or reset the fault code with VCDS. Needs to replace the whole steering column (including the anti-theft box), costs around 2500 USD in an Audi workshop (and around 1500 in an non-Audi workshop).

Initially I got a dash warning about "Left dipped headlight" (dipped apparently means low beam). Shortly thereafter, I got a dash indicator that seamed to be a light bulb with an X through it, which means a light outage. Sure enough, the left low-beam HID headlight was not working. The repair shop replaced the bulb, which seems to have cured the problem.
Aug 2017

"Interim" solution for for Takata front passenger-side airbag inflator was installed. I believe the repair was replacement of the inflator with an improved version. Plugged rain drainage openings in sunroof area and cowl (base of windshield) area were cleaned out. It was believed that clogging of these drainage openings was leading to water intrusion into passenger compartment during heavy rain. After our most recent rain, the passenger side footwell carpeting was soaked again, so I consider the "repair" completely UNSUCCCESSFUL.
Sep 2017

131634 mi

US $312
Gas-charged hood support strut had failed so that it would no longer support the hood. I ordered a third-party aftermarket part from a local auto parts store and installed it myself. Check Engine light went on. My OBD II code scanner showed code P2404, which indicates that the sensor in the EVAP leak detection pump system is returning a value that is out of the acceptable range. Technician at the shop investigated and determined that the EVAP system's purge valve had failed. The valve was replaced with a new one, but I was warned that once this problem was cured, one or more other EVAP system faults might become apparent. No additional issues have surfaced yet.
Oct 2017

131842 mi

US $609
Check Engine light came on. I checked with OBD-II scanner and found code P0455-- EVAP emissions control system leak detected (no purge flow or large leak). The shop determined that the EVAP system's leak detection pump had failed, so they replaced it.
Nov 2017

132064 mi

US $290
Recently, whenever we've had significant rain, I found the front passenger seat footwell carpeting soaked. The dealer's previous attempt to solve the problem, by cleaning out the sunroof and cowl drains, did nothing to alleviate the problem. The independent shop had a technician who had seen this problem before and suspected a leak in the drain tube running from the right front corner of the sunroof and down the right A-pillar. The tech had to remove the headliner to get at the drain tube. He found an separated joint in the tube and clamped the joint to secure it. This has apparently solved the problem. Check Engine light wen on again. My OBD scanner showed me that codes for the Evap Control Purge Valve and the Evap Control Leak Detection Pump, previously present separately on recent occasions, were now BOTH present, even though both components had been replaced. The technician could detect no other issues and cleared the codes. He told me that he HOPED these codes had popped up as a result of incomplete clearing of codes after the most recent repair. There was no charge, since the recent Evap Control System repairs were under the shop's repair warranty. In the sixty or so miles I have driven since I got the car back, no warnings have appeared.

HID headlight lenses had become quite cloudy. I had a "headlight restoration" done with a coupon special. Shop (Pep Boys) polished the lenses and applied some sort of protectant. The lenses don't look as good as new but ARE vastly clearer than they were before the restoration job.

Driver's door has not been responding reliably to remote unlocking. Most of the time it doesn't work. Shop tech told me Audi has TSB out about the central lock system and that there is a software update that is best done at the dealership service department. Tech said the software update might not be all that is needed to fix the problem, but it should be done first, before any mechanical repair is attempted.

All lower door trims rusted on the inside, thus creating big, ugly gap at the top of each of them. Metal part behind plastic that engages with the door pins rusted, swelling created buy rust flakes caused unsightly gap. I bought used trim pieces, different color from eBay, had them repainted and fitted on my car. They are from little newer model and it seams Audi has slightly changed this design, hopefully for the better. New replacement parts, had I bought it from Audi dealer were $150 each (x4) plus you have to paint them (primed only). It is ridiculous what these companies do to us. Clearly flawed design that customer has to deal with as soon as car is out of warranty.

Service manager said they replace all the light bulbs with genuine Audi parts - thought maybe they hadn't done that previously. Still unsuccessful. Gas flap would open on its own when I got into the car. They were able to reprogram some code and successfully fixed that problem. A valve seal (driver's side cylinder head) suddenly started leaking and the engine began to smoke - while my car was in the shop! Replaced three seals.

Engine light is back on, the car is shaking. Went to the dealer/repair and they told me it would cost 15,000 for a new engine or get a new car. Furious, I took the car to a repair shop near my home that specializes in foreign cars. They will be looking at the problem next week. The car has been shaking and engine light comes on. The second shop also says a new engine is necessary, but would not make financial sense. So time for a new car. Will be parting the Audi out or donating it.
