2013	Fuel economy might seem an odd, "why to buy" for such a large, powerful car. But this large powerful car manages EPA ratings of 18 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, each one mpg better than the superceded V8. In suburban driving the trip computer typically reported averages in the low 20s, but as high as 25.5. We're a long way from large luxury sedans that had trouble cracking 18. The BMW is rated a bit higher, 19/28, but this is close enough to call it a draw. If you want even better fuel economy, Audi how also offers a 240-horsepower diesel with EPA ratings of 24/36. But the TDI is only available with the long wheelbase and will also cost you another $3,700. BMW offers no comparable car on this side of the Atlantic. see full Audi A8 / S8 review

2004	4dr Sedan, ext. 330-horsepower 4.2L V8 6-speed shiftable automatic AWD	The Audi A8L is an interesting car if bought used. As it is a premium model, it is often bought on lease or by rich people. It is also all aluminium - when sold they are usually in great condition. The fuel economy is good for its size - about 12 miles a gallon city and 22 highway. For an 8 cylinder, all wheel drive performance car this is not bad. However high gas prices make it nota very economic choice for the gas version. With the introduction of the diesel version means used vehicles will come onto th eused market in about three years (2106). Fuel consumption will be better. see full Audi A8 / S8 review

2011	4dr Wagon turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD	Our Sportwagen, automatic, has 17,000 mostly country/suburban miles. We routinely get 43 mpg and the mileage seems to have improved a bit, maybe 2-3 mpg since new. Top mileage is about 47 mph on the interstate, low is about 37 in combined in-town/suburban winter driving. For a car that is fun to drive and responsive at the stop light, this seems very good to me. Right now, diesel is at a premium compared to gas, but we still are saving money on fuel. Mileage on other brands of small wagons was much lower for the same utility. A friend with a new, 2013 Subaru wagon got 30 mpg on a long trip and was happy, but nothing like the TDI delivers. see full Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen review
