2002 4dr SUV 282-horsepower 4.4L V8
5-speed shiftable automatic AWD
It appears from others to be a safe and reliable car. If the engine holds up as well as my other I should have it a long time. It has 60,000 mile but looks and drives like new. full 2002 BMW X5 review
BMW X5 Reliability And Durability: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2005 4dr SUV 315-horsepower 4.4L V8
6-speed shiftable automatic AWD
The V8 engine in this car turned shockingly fragile once we got above 95K miles. We have to replace an alternator, battery, water pump, thermostat housing, hoses, power steering hoses, fix the "alternator bracket" leak, transmission sender leak, valve cover gaskets, multiple other oil leaks, motor mounts, plus routine maintenance including front brakes that were done just 20K ago. Then we started having leaking valve seals. The engine runs great, but this is the least durable of 3 bmws that I have owned. 3 three of our other vehicles are Ford v8s with a collective 450K miles. We had one oil leak and routine maintenance with those. We no longer feel like we can trust this car, we have spent close to $6000 in non-scheduled maintenance in the last 6 months of ownership and the valve seals would be another 2-3K. We traded it in. full 2005 BMW X5 review
2003 4dr SUV 282-horsepower 4.4L V8
5-speed shiftable automatic AWD
Got in mechanical trouble all the time~~~ full 2003 BMW X5 review
2001 4dr SUV 282-horsepower 4.4L V8
5-speed shiftable automatic AWD
The worst car I have ever owned. The transmission failed 4 days after the warranty was over - and the vehicle had less than 45,000 miles on it then. full 2001 BMW X5 review
