TrueDelta Reviews the Real Gas Mileage of the Buick Encore

Buick Encore Real Gas Mileage: Pros
YearComment
2013 With front-wheel-drive, the Encore earns EPA ratings of 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. Add all-wheel-drive (as on the tested car) and these figures drop to 23/30. Given the Encore's small size and marginal power output, better might be expected. The BMW X1, with another 102 horsepower, somehow manages 22/33 on the EPA test cycle. But the BMW's ratings seem a bit iffy. I had a much easier time meeting and exceeding the Buick's EPA ratings. At a steady 70 on the highway I averaged over 31. In suburban driving the trip computer regularly reported averages in the low 30s, even 35. To average over 30, though, you can't have too many stops or too heavy a foot. Put the pedal down hard, and the small four-cylinder engine's turbo will enable it to gulp air--and fuel--like a much larger one. Drive with little care for fuel economy, and 25 will happen. Which is still better than the EPA rating. The Tucson is among the oldest designs in Hyundai's line, and doesn't have the firm's latest engine technology. Consequently, its EPA ratings are a dismal (for a compact, 176-horsepower vehicle) 20/27. The current compact crossover champ, the Mazda CX-5, manages just a little better than the Encore, 24/30. see full Buick Encore review

Buick Encore Real Gas Mileage: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2013 4dr SUV turbocharged 138hp 1.4L I4
6-speed shiftable automatic AWD
The almost 40 mpg on the highway makes the Buick Encore the most efficient, real world, all wheel drive gasoline sedan or CUV available. The engine torque from the turbo makes output low in the operating range on low 87 octane. see full Buick Encore review

Buick Enclave Real Gas Mileage: Pros

2009 4dr SUV 288-horsepower 3.6L V6

More than reasonable for a 5000 lb vehicle. Benefits of aero design ( for an SUV ) and six speed transmission both contribute. see full Buick Enclave review

for an 8 passenger vehicle that can tow 4,500 pounds. I cannot complain about 19.3 mpg city and 24.7 mpg highway. see full Buick Enclave review

Buick Enclave Real Gas Mileage: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2011 0 The fuel economy is abysmal and as far as I know, Buick STILL doesn't offer a hybrid option. The best mileage I've been able to get on long road trips with mostly highway driving is 22-23 mpg. City driving, however, stubbornly stays at 14-15 mpg, no matter what I do! :( see full Buick Enclave review
2009 4dr SUV 288-horsepower 3.6L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Well under (15-20%) below the EPA ratings, though the engine is STILL brand new (<400 miles total). see full Buick Enclave review

2008 4dr SUV 275-horsepower 3.6L V6

This is the one thing that is a weak point. at 12-16 MPG, this car could use a larger and more efficient engine. Had GM not folded, there was talks of a hybrid version (which still may come out as a Caddy) which we would definitely buy without hesitation. see full Buick Enclave review
