TrueDelta Reviews the Seat Room and Comfort of the 2013
2014 |
Both cars have comfortable front seats, but the ELR's provide more lateral support, at least with the $2,450 brown interior option (which adds power adjusters to their modestly sized side bolsters).
Front seat access isn't among the ELR's strengths. As is often the case with coupes, the doors are long and heavy.

The Volt's rear seat is pretty tight. The Cadillac ELR's is even tighter. At 5-9, I barely have enough space for my head and knees, and this when sitting behind someone my own size. Put someone taller in the front seat, and even pre-teens will have trouble squeezing into the back seat. This being a two-door, rear seat access is also dicey.
The Tesla's rear seat is far roomier than either GM car's. Plus a rear-facing third row is optional.

I was expecting zero room in the back, but I sat in the backseat even with the drivers seat adjusted far back (I'm 5'11" but long legs and tend to adjust seats to the back end of their travel), I had reasonable legroom for a very compact car. The seat covering material was pleasant as well.

Even with the front seats slid all the way back, this car still has more room than almost any other car -- almost as much room as a BMW 780IL.

Only subcompact we test drove that could actually fit four adults. More rear leg room than many midsize cars.

When I bought the car, I laid the seat down all the way to make sure it would be comfortable enough to nap on. It is, but it's slightly more comfortable if the car is parked on an incline because the seat doesn't quite go down completely flat... although come to think of it I haven't tried raising the seat height with the lever then setting the seat back. Anyway, the passenger side doesn't have a seat height adjustment lever and it doesn't quite make a 180% flat angle either.
