After watching a bunch of YouTube videos on how to solve this unfortunately VERY common problem, I was able to force open the secondary latch with a long screwdriver and a hammer. I then sprayed it with PB Blaster to remove some of the rust. When that dried, I used a TON of silicone grease (both spray-on and brake caliper grease) on the secondary latch to hopefully allow it to move despite the rust. It seems to be better, but I won't know if I've solved the problem until trying to take the tire down again after a few months. |
