Why the 2008 Hyundai Elantra?

Discounts & incentives

$1500 rebate plus additional $500 "internet" rebate led to no-hassle purchase, @ 15,100 after rebate, I felt no need to haggle.

Interior styling

Quality materials, subdued color scheme (no garish "fake aluminum" on dash) decent control action. Good panel fit, nice integration between door panels and dash, minimal gaps all over. Blue/white instrument lighting highly visible, yet not annoyingly so.

Safety & braking

Reasonably flat cornering (SE w/optional wheels/tires), brakes very good, Traction Control and ABS work well, full compliment of airbags, fully adjustable active headrests. Seatbelts for 5, LATCH for both rear seats

Fuel economy

City/Highway mileage exceeds EPA ratings if driven smoothly (5 manual)

Feature availability

The SE package has everything that you need except the expensive features like sunroof and leather, which are available if you want them.

Why Not the 2008 Hyundai Elantra?

Color choices

Narrow range of colors, those available tend to be "conservative", making the car that you choose "one of many", though the Apple Red is somewhat rare.

Cargo capacity

Pass-through with both rear seats folded down is not "full-sized" which limits the size of long items that you can carry. Towing is rated @ 1500 lbs, but I feel that is overrated for a car that only weighs 2700 lbs.

Audio & nav systems

No rear deck speakers, low volume on satellite radio and MP3 discs. AUX jack works great, though as you can turn up the volume on the player to get the most out of the stereo.

"Alleged" depreciation will be a problem if you bring as a trade to a domestic dealer
