Genesis ran Hot twice from 1000 mile trip, had to be towed to dealership, spent 5 days in shop..replaced radiatior and cooling fans and module.
Car shakes at speed, seem to be unbalanced tires/wheels. Had tires and wheels re-balanced, no change. Went to a second store to get wheels re-balanced, some improvement, but still very noticeable issues. Other users report same issue on car.
Car shakes severely when driving, even after multiple tire re-balancing efforts. Dealer could reproduce but not fix, other vehicle on the lot did the same. Worst ride I have ever experienced, and I drive a lot of rental cars. Car shakes very noticeably at idle. Vibration is much reduced when turning off the A/C system. Worst when stopped in gear, but reproducible caused by A/C system being on (compressor?)
Bad rattles from passenger side B-pillar trim piece. Allegedly fixed by adding padding, but I haven't gotten my car back after two weeks in the shop, since they are still trying to fix another issue withj bad vibrations while driving. After 4 weeks at the dealer, the rattle from passenger side B-pillar trim piece was fixed. rnAll four tires were replaced with new (but same brand and model) tires. Vibration issues continue, and getting worse. Idle vibration also not fixed.
Headlights were aimed to specification to correct factory aim that was too low (too close to car).
Slight amount of lateral play in the steering wheel. Sometimes felt when driving, sometimes felt when entering the car with the engine off. Dealer duplicated but said it was normal because two new Genesis on the lot had the same condition. Mounting arm on Intake Resonator was broken where it mounts to the intake manifold. It is out of sight under the engine cover & went unnoticed until it tilted downward. Removal of the cover revealed the break. Probably broken from factory.
During a recent interstate trip, AEB FAILURE (Autonomous Emergency Braking Failure) flashed on the dash several times in a 1-hour period & then cleared. Not seen since. Dealer had no way to test for this unless error displays constantly. Took car in for oil/filter change. Check Engine light also went on a few days before service. Fault log showed codes P2097 & P2099. They told me that my K&N air filter was too restrictive and caused the problem. Replaced w/OEM air filter.
Check Engine light came on. Fault log showed trouble codes P2097 & P2099. They replaced both O2 sensors.
Very strong fuel smell in garage during hot weather. No other vehicles have had this issue. Dealer unable to duplicate problem.
Audio quit. No sound. Made appointment for diagnosis. After a short period with ignition off, radio/nav came back to life. Unable to duplicate issue. Will return to dealer with the issue when it happens without rebooting.

5.0 V8 has faulty piston rings. Multiple "oil consumption test" 1qt per 1000-1100 miles. Hyundai "claims" until oil consume goes <1k per qt, they do nothing. Many others have their 5.0 replaced w/far less oil consumption.
Engine cover was not sealed. I was leaking oil, Fixed under warranty
Replaced crusise control after it stopped working.
Engine consuming oil. ~1 QT per 2000 miles. Dealership is currenty performing an oil consumption test and advised me to use 5W/30 oil as opposed to the the recommended 5W/ 20
The perimeter sensor stopped working. Also the TPMS light sometimes comes on. Might be Texas temps. The check engine light flashed intermittently. Dealer says problem was caused by use of a automobile radar detector. Dealer disconnected battery and reset auto.
Perimeter parking system does not work. The dealer discovered that the perimeter sensor module had never been installed, ordered one from Hyundai and installed it.

My Smart Cruise Control System was displaying a warning. The dealer diagnosed and had to replace the Module Assembly for the Auto Cruise System.
Faulty Centre Console Lid - Replacement ordered. Active (swivelling) Front Headlights not working - Still under investigation. Also: Steering Wheel position sometimes loses its memory and audio system switches itself on sometimes when you start the car.
Front parking sensor requires replacement - parts ordered. System 'beeps' every time car comes to a stop. Rear view Camera out of alignment. Now fixed. Problem with swiveling headlights remains. Was reported as fixed, but no. Front Parking Sensor system malfunctioned causing system to beep repeatedly every time vehicle came to a full stop. New sensor ordered and fitted to fix problem.
Transmission was not as smooth as when new & appeared to be getting worse. Transmission also slow to change down when accelerating. Dealer tried re-flash of transmission computer but did not improve condition. Hyundai authorised replacement. Steering Wheel Position memory malfunctioned intermittantly. Memory module replaced. Problem now worse than before - no longer intermittant as it ghanges position every time now!! Drivers Sunvisor mirror cover was stuck closed. Sunvisor was replaced. Now OK. Drivers Seat Cushion centre panel was badly wrinkled. Dealer ordered a new centre panel for seat and replaced it. Repaired seat cushion is as bad or worse than the original. Dealer is ordering new complete seat cushion.
Drivers Seat Cushion foam and cover replaced. some seat trim was broken during re-installation. parts were ordered and fixed within three days. Fuel Tank not venting properly during fill-ups causing constant stops of gas pump.
Check engine light came on: emission control system problem. Dealer identified faulty sensor and replaced it under warranty.

Low tire pressure warning light came on; dealer verified that one tire was 1 psi low, checked for punctures (found none), and added nitrogen to all tires to bring them to recommended pressures.
From the dealer's report: "Evac vent valve stuck in the close position." Part on order for future installation.
On a previous visit, dealer reported "evac vent valve stuck in the close position." During this visit, dealer replaced faulty valve.
Driver seat switch works intermittently. Shop could not find the fault, even after keeping the car overnight.
Fuel filler air vent plugged, unable to add gas due to nozzle shutting down after each cupfull. Removed trunk liner to clean air vent.
Car would not start when very cold. Engine would crank but no start. As if no fuel or no spark. Had the throttle body replaced under warranty. Front cover as well as oil pan leaking oil! Had both gaskets and or silicon seals replaced to correct oil leaks. Both under warranty but not normal as far as I am concerned for such low mileage.
Continual Problem with Rough Idle, This time they removed the OCV valves and tested them, they seem to test okay but the restance levels were above normal. dealer does not want to replace, suggests removing gas tank and clean
Driving in 30c and for an hour air conditioner blew warm air. All of a sounded it started to blow cold air when I got close to the ocean and some shade. as usual no codes found and dealer can not replicate?
Drivers seat cushion had to be ordered/replaced. The foam on the left side had become overly compressed, was no longer providing support. It was not covered under warranty.

While waiting for the sensor to come in, another failed. When both sensors came in, they replaced them. Sensors work but now get random warnings indicating that there is an object in front of my car, when there actually is not.
power mirrors fail to return to preset after transmission is taken out of reverse.

Now the passenger side mirror has failed also. The part is on order. I also am having an intermittent issue with the power mirrors(both sides) are failing to return to the set position after the car comes out of reverse. We have narrowed the probable cause to the main mirror switch. Part is on order. My steering wheel leather is starting to come off at the bottom of the wheel. Part is on order.

Genesis had severe tire vibration from the beginning. Dealer Service agreed there was a problem with 3 tires and ordered them. Not yet installed.
Vehicle still vibrated after replacing three tires. Dealer replaced fourth tire and this fixed the problem. Car might have sat on lot for too long with underinflated tires.
In addition, there was a strange sound when the vehicle was cold, but seemed to lessen when warm. Dealer said normal. On my own found that one of the clips on the air box was hanging loose. Fastened it.
Right rear door would not open from inside. Probably that way since delivered. An actuator arm was reinstalled and that fixed the problem.

Adaptive cruise control was shutting by itself. Dealer said it was because of a brake fluid recall. Repairs were performed for free. Problem just reoccurred yesterday. Starts with the dash display flickering, then cruise shuts off.
Car shut off with the ESC, EPB, CEL. Threw code U0001 Loss connection with ECU, and U0100. Restarted in limp mode (3rd gear only). Fixed with new recall. Replaced brake switch, fuse and re-flash of the ECU.
Flickering dashboard display, then went completely dead. No electrical. Had to pull fuse in trunk to make it work. Dealer had NO IDEA what was wrong. Called corporate. They cleaned grounds, and problem disappeared. Symptoms again this week.
random misfire--from check engine light
Threw a Check engine code, cylinder misfire. No root cause found. Issue has not recurred.
Repair of loose drivers seat foam. Parts ordered. Right muffler rubber hangers failing. Rubber muffler hangers ordered.
The water pump was replaced The thermostat failed and was replaced.

Also the rear window defogger doesn't function properly. Windows do not always function properly.
Auto light feature doesn't work. Headlights will not turn off regardless of the setting. The interior lights will not come on until I am in the car and have started it and I have to push one of the buttons on the overhead console. Replaced a module.
Returned to shop for issues with lights. Replaced the dome light, still not fixed. Also, car locking when keys were in the car. License plate bulb burned out.
Same issue with the lights. I never know what I'm going to get with these "auto" lights that have been in mass production since the late 70s early 80s and can work on a Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, etc. but not on a $45,000 Hyundai Genesis.
Fixed my continual auto light problem. It was a bad light switch/button in the driver's door.

Complete loss of brakes. Diagnosis is bad abs module likely caused by corrosion issue tied to bad brake fluid. This was a recall (brake fluid). Dealer diagnosed replacement of abs module. Dealer advocated for me, got Hyundai to cover the $3k repair.
Lifter noise, changed oil waiting for results.

Oil Control Valve failed, check engine light came on. CVVT was not working till repair completed. 2nd engine related issue in 1 yr ownership, and I take excellent care of the car..above and beyond most owners.

Genesis 3.8 engine makes a harsh "rock-rock-rock-rock-rock" sound at about 2000 rpm under load. Several people have commented. I have a video on YouTube (search "Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Sound") documenting it. Two dealers--no help.
Recall for a problem with the rear brake lights.
Driver-side seat warmer trips off when car is cold. Replaced seat warmer console switch Gas cap does not tighten properly. No click. Replaced gas cap.

The engine imploded while driving on the freeway. It threw a rod and blew a hole in the engine block. This car was serviced regularly through a dealership and had just returned from servicing 2 weeks earlier.
Transmission had been having some minor slips. Then coming home from vacation, we were going uphill, the car shifted very hard then did not come out of that gear for the remainder of the trip. The next day, it had returned back to normal.
Replaced passenger seating surface due to flaw in leather.
Engine started with white smoke and severe noise. Restarted fine. Determined to be a valve problem. Replaced all hydraulic lifters and one valve, new timing chain tensioners.

Bad alternator was replaced Front passenger weather stripping was torn and replaced. Water puddled near spare tire in the trunk. Dealer could not find a source of the water.

Compressor replacement Engine replaced. Short block. I complained about whining noise for 18 months, ever since they replaced a valve (no noise before repair). After we got into the extended warranty, they took the problem seriously. Noisy oil pump, metal in the oil pan.
power steering hose was leaking. Dealer said fitting or hose was loose.
Engine check light came on...went to dealer. Reset light, tried to reproduce with no joy.
AC did not cool. Refrigerant was low.
the vehicle security system no longer seemed to activate when locking the doors. I also requested a map update for the Genesis, but the technician used the wrong update disk and corrupted the entire nav system. A new head unit is on order.

Parts for seat adjustment motor arrived. Had additional wait for steering wheel column (entire column had to be replaced rather than switch), repairs took 3 days over 2 visits.
Trunk would not stay open - struts apprently went bad
Brake started to go to the floor when pressed; it needed to be pumped. Took to dealer for diagnosis; fault codes indicated ABS module problem, parts ordered.
In addition to the ABS module problem, the brake master cylinder needed replacing as well.
Fuel Pump failed.
Seat belt buckle failure (remained unable to lock) was replaced by dealer under warranty. V8 engine knocking; went away after 20 min.; Hyundai field engineers alerted.
Doors randomly locking and unlocking; other electrical aspects of electrical system randomly malfunctioning / beeping, etc.
Power braking went out. Apparently caused by valves failing open (manual braking remained, but brakes were extremely "soft.") Dealer service had broken the door handle lock/unlock button during a repair in the spring. They replaced the driver side door handle. At start of this service trip, nav software was updated. At some point, the radio was replaced because it failed during the nav update. Thereafter the speakers emitted random max-volume pops and noises while car in motion. Amp replaced

Replaced drive shaft due to vibration. Earlier repair with shims didn't last.
Transmission wouldnot shift to reverse or drive, one time. Diagnosis did not identify problems. Has not recurred
The check engine light came on due to the gas cap not being tightened. Also had the airbags repaired for an airbag TSB.
This is my second trip to the dealer because my check engine light came on. The dealer informed me that it was a TSB or recall on the check engine light and informed me that the problem will be fixed. The dealership fixed the light. Check engine light came back on, and the dealer recognized it, but couldn't find a problem with the car. She said when you have a lot of electronics on a car this will normally happen.
Backup camera ceased to function, repair was simply unplugging and reconnecting camera, functionality restored.
Car developed a significant misfire. Spark plugs replaced, low compression on #8 cylinder. Fault was determined to be broken exhaust valve spring on #8 cylinder. Valve spring replaced, symptoms resolved
Check engine light came on. Took to shop and they said there was a TSB. Performed TSB and problem went away.

Check engine light came on. Diagnostics indicated bad oxygen sensor. Sensor was replaced.
Brake lights failed, Had to replace diode for led lights.
Vehicle has a snapping noise when driving and vibration in the floor boards and pedals. Dealer rebalanced the tires which did not fix the problem. Steering wheel vibrates at idle causing arm and hand to shake. Dealer said it's a characteristic of the car and did not fix the problem. Rear dome light stopped working.
Brake pedal went to the floor and would not stop vehicle at random.
Switch for hood alarm fell off car causing the battery to drain and alarm not work properly.
Rear differential was replaced. Reading lamp head unit had to be replaced. Check engine light caused by faulty purge valve. Cleaned purge valve rather than replace and check engine came back on after 2 days.
Steering wheel tilt and telescope quit working. Dealership replaced a cable and switch. Horrible smell when accelerating hard. Has been present since day one. Dealership won't admit there is a problem.
Car having trouble shifting at low speeds. Reset computer, problem fixed

changing of lightbulbs (ongoing problem that dealer is incompetant to fix ) -in my opinion caused afls to be inoperable . they recommend total replacement of headlights $$$$$$ , not successful repair ongoing problem with wipers chattering and banging noises . ongoing problem that dealer seems to not be able to fix
Leather steering wheel replaced under warranty - leather cracking.
Check engine light and ESC light came on and car would not respond to accelerator. Throttle position sensor was replaced under warranty by dealer. CD Player had "mechanism error" and would not play or eject CD. CD Player replaced by dealer under warranty.
Lock/unlock button on driver door handle stopped working. Had to replace entire door handle.
Drivers seat motor/track '?' began low grinding sound when activated. Dealer very receptive, found problem and ordered parts to repair. Will update when parts arrive.
Seat track removed and replaced. no further problems
DVD/Aux select button began sticking and made selections difficult. Dropped by service on the way home from work to show problem. I couldn't leave car then so I made an appt. Repair took less than an hour.
Volume/on off knob broken during navigation update. Dealer repaired.
microscopic hole developed in lower radiator hose. no obvious leak. check engine sensor lighted up. Dealer found issue and repaired. No cost to me. Great!
Seat cooling flow to back portion of seat became almost non-existent. Seat cushion air flow channels had collapsed. Dealer replaced seat cushions, cooling fan and added modded 1/2 inch pvc pipe to prevent future collapse. Good job!
Steering column control up/down in/out starting to malfunction intermittently. Due to cost +$300 I chose to wait. I understand there is a fix but must be done under warenty.
Intermittent power steering column fore-aft adjuster problem never fixed. I felt it was too much to pay for that convenience.
Key fobs (both) would not open car after it sat overnight or longer period of time. Battery check okay. Dealer replaced one fob reinitialized 2nd. New fob works. Old fob same problem, won't unlock car if car sets unused for several hours.
Second original key fob would not open the car doors remotely. After 4 trips to the dealer both key fobs were eventually replaced under warrenty.
Car had rough idle at startup. Intermittent engine misfire at cruising speeds. 65,000 miles on car. Replaced throttle position sensor and updated software.
The car needed to be jumped to start. A new battery was installed.

Engine would surge when idling and power would cut out when driving. Drove it to dealer and they replaced faulty fuel sensor.

Windshield cracked and had to be replaced. A crack showed up on a very cold day (below 0) when we had the defroster turned on high. No rock that we were aware of. Front proximity sensor stopped working
It made a knocking sound, especially when turning. Diagnosis found a loose bolt. Tightened at no charge.
Engine running enevenly and eventually could not accelerate due to faulty throtle position sensor. "Limped" to dealer and part replaced
Engine was making a knocking sound at startup. Dealer diagnosed a problem in the bottom end and replaced the engine with a new one, from Hyundai. All work done under warranty.
After engine replacment (late 2012) there was a slight vibration in the driveline. Dealer diagnosed as a transmission issue and reprogrammed the transmission.
Dealer was not able to properly update navigation. Had to replace radio head unit.
Rain sensing wipers did not sense rain. Dealer replaced multi switch, which did not fix the problem. Upon further investigation, rain sensor previously replaced by another dealer was found to be incorrectly installed.
Noise from what seemed like the accessory belt as well as erratic idle on startup only when ambiant temperature is less than 5 degrees celsius.
Had problem with brake fade where pedal went right to floor. Dealer informed me of campaign to replace DOT 3 fluid with DOT 4 due to boiling issue with DOT 3 under heavy braking.
Squeeling noise and erratic idle when engine is cold
They replaced the throttle body per Hyundai's direction and that fixed the erratic idle at startup problem.
Squealing noise at start up. They replaced all the serpentine belt idlers including a $350 one that wasn't covered by the warranty. Fortunately for me the dealer picked up the cost.
Not able to shift from drive into park or vice versa. After 3 tries that included putting the wrong brake sensor in the car the dealer finally determined that it was the gyro in the headlight module causing the problem.
header had rusted out and required replacement.
engine light caused by timing chain skipping a tooth. timing chain replaced under extended warranty. Wiper motor failed due to seizing of wiper transmission assembly. Motor warrantied but transmission wasn't.
variable valve timing unit was replaced. not covered under extended warranty
Hi idle sensor not functioning properly and was replaced which corrected the problem.
Lock button on drivers door stopped working, ordered replacement
Very rough running, ESC and Check Engine lights lit, Fuel injection computer replace Backup camera was intermittent
Shifting was erratic. New software update fixed it.
Transmission shifts poorly. This is a problem on all 3.8 Genesis because Hyundai met fuel mileage standards using the transmission rather than the engine. I'll never buy another one.
Steering wheel would not go to desired position automatically. Dealer could not fix problem,said it contact factory support and give me a call to return to fix the problem.
There was clear plastic peeling from the wheel center caps. It wasn't clear if this was the original protective coating that somehow got stuck. Dealer replaced with caps from another car on his lot.
Oxygen sensor failed. Vehicle warning lamp. Occasionally engine stuttered...hesitating when pulling out and accelerating.
Repair shop [not dealer] overfilled crankcase. Oil control valve blew out. Dealer replaced under warranty.
Replace a lost rubber pad in hood which depresses switch and keeps battery from draining. Battery was dead because of missing bumper pad.
hood latch cable rusted, latch rusted, rust came through the hood in same area. code check revealed problem with mechanisms for handling oil flow in engine. Sensor replaced as well as another part; also sensor for exhaust regulation.
Previously, dealer's designated body shop had repaired rusted hood cable assembly and repaired rust bubbling under hood lip and trim. Rust returned and it was repaired again without charge.
replace gaskets and seal on lower engine oil pan and timing chain housing. Tech said this was caused by substandard repair by earlier tech who replaced oil control valve at same dealer.
Fuel cap not sealing completely c/s engine light on. Replaced fuel cap and cleared code P0442. Performed Evap leak test. No leak present. car body weather stripping along driver side torn. Service center replaced weatherstripping.
Cruise Control Stopped operating. Mechanic reset error code. Plan to replace Cruise control harness as well. Part on order Trunk lock flap fell off.
problems with the tilt steering wheel, tilt position memory would not engage. Dealter installed a new tilt/telescope switch per TSB 08-BE-010.
Clearcoat paint on driver door handle peeling. Replaced driver door outter handle and lock cylinder cover.
Poorly seated seal on driver's door, resulting in minor wind noise in passenger compartment.
TSB for software update of Tech/Nav system. Dealer inspected fuel door switch, which fails to work intermittently. Ordered a replacement, which was installed on a subsequent visit.
Dealer replaced TPS (throttle position sensor) under warranty.
Throttle position sensor had failed and was replaced at the dealership under warranty. The car was still driveable, however the acceleration was erratic.
Steering wheel cannot be adjusted by electrical switch - stuck in fully upright position. Dealer has the car the entire day and then has to order a part, so I'll need to take it back another day. Car died again due to parasitic power draw. Car also died on the freeway while driving 70mph! Very scary experience. Had the car jumpstarted, and it happened again a few days later. Dealer has no idea what is going on...
Battery completely dead due to parasitic power draw (common problem with this vehicle). Hyundai roadside assistance jumpstarted my car. Dealer can't figure out what's wrong with it.
Still no idea what is causing the parasitic power draw and the car to be completely dead and need a tow occasionally. The car's extended warranty just expired, and Hyundai said this is not covered by the 100K powertrain warranty...
