Reviewed: 2004 Jaguar S-Type

4dr Sedan 235-horsepower 3.0L V6 6-speed automatic RWD

Why the 2004 Jaguar S-Type?

Brand reputation & image

Limited production, compared to other brands. Jaguar mystique.

Powertrain performance

ZF 6-speed automatic transmission performs flawlessly. Has a two-mode setting. In "sport" setting, shifts are crisp, and transmission holds on to each gear longer. Shift points are appropriate for power band of engine. The best part of the drive train.

Interior styling

Fine materials; real wood and leather. Attractive color combinations. Workmanship is first rate. Classic styling; mercifully devoid of trendy painted aluminum plastic and fake carbon-fiber trims.

Materials & workmanship

Fit and finish is excellent; paint work is high-quality, and durable. Interior trim components are durable, and have aged well. Driveline is rock-solid. Overall, car give the "carved from one solid piece of steel" feeling while driving.
