Introduction

It's a great first car, for the mechanically inclined. Avoid it if you don't want to do the work yourself!

Why the 2005 Nissan Sentra?

Past personal experience

Decent car. Second owner, and first car I ever bought from a dealership, with less than 10k miles on it. Drove well, got decent mileage (30+ on highway, 25+ in town), and had decent accessory equipment (Stereo, cruise control, p/l, p/w, etc.).

Why Not the 2005 Nissan Sentra?

Reliability & durability

My complaints about this car are limited, but critical. In the time I had this vehicle, I drove less than 80k miles. In that time, I had to replace a head gasket (At 50k), and was about to do so again (at 79k) before I made the decision to sell it and get something else. The window motors are attached to the windows using plastic pieces that break easily, and are non-replaceable, requiring the entire window motor and armature to be replaced (For around $200, just for parts) rather than replacing the 10 cent plastic clip that broke. The CD player started acting up at around 25k miles, and by 45k was dead and gone. I admit that this was several years into ownership, but it wasn't that frequently used.
