Subaru Crosstrek Real Gas Mileage: Pros
YearComment
2021 The Subaru Crosstrek is also relatively inexpensive to operate. Compared to other small crossovers with all-wheel-drive, the Subaru Crosstrek Sport scores among the highest on the EPA's tests: 27 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. With its turbocharged engine, the Seltos SX checks in quite a bit lower: 25 city, 30 highway. Even a Seltos with Kia's 2.0-liter non-turbo engine can only match the Crosstrek Sport with a 2.5-liter engine in the city test; in the highway test it manages only 31 mpg. A Honda HR-V with AWD ties that Seltos: 27/31. Crosstreks with Subaur's 2.0-liter engine score one mpg better in the city test but one mpg worse in the highway test. So the larger engine in the Sport and Limited entail little if any fuel economy penalty. During my winter driving the trip computer reported 28.5 mpg in town and 31.5 mph on the highway. For better city fuel economy, a Crosstrek Hybrid with EPA ratings of 36/34 and about 17 miles of electric-only range is offered in ten zero-emission vehicle mandate states. see full Subaru Crosstrek review

2015 4dr Hatch 160-horsepower 2.0L H4 Hybrid
6-speed shiftable CVT AWD
Economy is not stellar for a hybrid but very good for a car with AWD, great ground clearance, and good interior space. The stop/start system saves a ton of gas when driving around town, and at moderate country road speeds (around 50) the mileage is great, easily over 40 mpg for some trips. see full Subaru Crosstrek review
2013 4dr Hatch 148-horsepower 2.0L H4
6-speed shiftable CVT AWD
The best mileage we have ever achieved in the Crosstrek is around 28mpg. We drive about 50% interstate, 30% highway and 20% city. see full Subaru Crosstrek review

TrueDelta Reviews the Real Gas Mileage of the Chevrolet Camaro

Chevrolet Camaro Real Gas Mileage: Cons
YearComment
Another fairly obvious "why not to buy," for either car: fuel economy. The tested Camaro scored 16 mpg city and 25 mpg highway in the EPA's tests, slightly better than the Mustang's 15/25. The automatic has an even taller top gear and when paired with it the V8 can deactivate four cylinders, so it manages 17 mpg city, 28 mpg highway--the latter figure as high as that for the Camaro V6 automatic (19/28). For significantly better fuel economy it's necessary to get the 2.0-liter turbo, which scores 21/30 with a manual and 22/31 with an automatic. In my 300-odd miles of driving I averaged 16.5 mpg. If I drove with a light foot I could coax the average slightly over 20. I observed similar real-world numbers in the Mustang. On a 70-mph highway the Camaro averaged 24.5, but there might have been a modest headwind. The Mustang averaged 28 in my highway driving. Overall, both achieve very good fuel efficiency for cars of their weight and horsepower, but praise doesn't come much fainter. see full Chevrolet Camaro review

2017 2dr Coupe 455-horsepower 6.2L V8

Surprisingly, this 455hp car, with a 6.2L V8 -- that's 378 cubic inches -- gets decent gas mileage. It averages just over 20mpg, for which I credit the cylinder shutoff feature. So far it's been pretty common to look at the dash when I'm just beetling across town and see that it's in V4 mode, and getting 40 or 50mpg, as long as I'm keeping my right loafer rather light. see full Chevrolet Camaro review
