TrueDelta Reviews the Real Gas Mileage of the Toyota Prius c

Toyota Prius c Real Gas Mileage: Pros
YearComment
2012 The #1 benefit of the Prius c is obvious. It has the highest EPA ratings of any car, 53 miles-per-gallon in the city and 46 MPG highway. This noted, the EPA ratings for the larger, smoother, and more powerful regular Prius are almost as high in the city (51) and are actually a little better on the highway (48). The Prius c only goes significantly farther on a gallon of gas if you're willing and able to drive it with a very light right foot, especially when braking. Then you'll regularly observe over 60 in suburban driving. I observed as high as 82 for the trip from my house to my kids' school. see full Toyota Prius c review

Most of the time, I turn on the 'Eco mode'. Also, I switch the display to 'Eco Score' display. Following the guideline such that the power band is always within the 80% quantile of 'Eco' range, I can maintain roughly 49-51 mpg on the highway (speed between 55 to 70 mph, depending on the inclination). Overall, I can get 54-60 mpg due to the terrain in my commute that allow me using battery power completelyfor the last 1 mile of each trip. see full Toyota Prius c review

In moderate to warm weather 50-80 degrees, this car will get 55-58 mpg in combined driving with careful operation. It drops 2-3 mpg in very cold weather or with heavy AC use. The MPG have never been as low as the window sticker. We have averaged 55 mpg over 7000 miles. see full Toyota Prius c review

OK This is NOT a car to buy if MPG is important although I am getting over 23 MPG avg. It is a POWERFUL car with a great drive train ready like a race horse at the gate to giddy up and it does when you need it on premium recommended fuel....in spades. I don't drive enough to care about fuel economy all that much. Not an econobox. see full Infiniti EX review

17MPG in the city is a little disappointing for a vehicle with such finesse and reputation. I would guess Infiniti would cater to the masses with styling, performance and a little more economy. Not asking for miracles but I'm sure they could squeeze out 3 or 4 more MPG with the same 3.5L V6 see full Infiniti EX review

I average about 20 miles per gallon on premium fuel - with a mix of street and highway driving. I typically get 16 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway. Some of this is attributable to the 5 speed transmission on the car, which favors acceleration to economy. I imagine the 7 speed transmission should help the car get better highway economy. see full Infiniti EX review
2008 4dr SUV 297-horsepower 3.5L V6

Expensive to keep fuelled given poor gas mileage and costs of premium fuel. Number 1 reason I am thinking of switching to another car. see full Infiniti EX review
