Went on a 400 mile round trip to the mountains (5,500ft elevation) for the weekend and back (2,00ft elevation) and averaged 26mpg. 6-speed shiftable automatic AWD		 Our Tiguan ranges from 20-30 mpg, between city and highway cruising. It's consistently about 5 mpg thirstier than the GTI. Blame the extra weight, but there's less than 400 lbs of that, IIRC. Or blame the AWD, but it's part-time only. I blame the large aero cross-section; it stands about a foot taller than a Golf. If VW would offer a TDI in the Tiguan, they'd sell as many as they could spare to the US market. I'd be standing in line. see full Volkswagen Tiguan review

I would guess Infiniti would cater to the masses with styling, performance and a little more economy. 5-speed shiftable automatic RWD		 I average about 20 miles per gallon on premium fuel - with a mix of street and highway driving. I typically get 16 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway. Some of this is attributable to the 5 speed transmission on the car, which favors acceleration to economy. I imagine the 7 speed transmission should help the car get better highway economy. see full Infiniti EX review
