2002 Volvo S80 Real Gas Mileage: Pros

I've had this car for 13 years now and the mpg has always been very good. Being a European model (2.4 litre petrol auto - 170 bhp) it does not compare directly with any US models. I have the air con on 100% of the time. If I keep to the speed limit - 80 -85 on the speedo I get 35 mpg (English gallons!) without any problem. On a holiday trip to Portugal doing long distance driving and at slightly slower speeds - say 70 mph on the speedo - I managed 40 mpg over nearly 1,500 miles. In town stop start driving I will usually get 25 mpg. Impressive figures I think for a 13 year old vehicle weighing as much as it does. see full Volvo S80 review
