2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Pros and Cons at TrueDelta: Owner Pros and Cons by shawns.inbox

Cargo capacity
The car has a surprising amount of storage and cargo space. The rear seats can be completely removed, leaving a flat floor. The front passenger seat can also fold flat, rather than just tilting forward.
Powertrain performance
The four-cylinder engine, although not very fuel efficient, is more than powerful enough for daily driving. The engine does not have an even power curve. Our Subaru has a steady power output, which starts at much lower RPM than the PT.
Fuel economy
19 MPG for a fairly small, four-cylinder engine is barely acceptable. No advances in engine technology here. At least, none from the last 20 years. When driven gently, garaged and driven about 20 miles round trip per day (10% highway): 20 MPG. :-(
Materials & workmanship
Doors rattle, pillars rattle, suspension rattles, road noise very plentiful. A/C was defective when brand new. It is again defective and has been for a few years.
Insurance cost
Insurance cost is about average. Depreciation is bad.
Dealer practices
Combined with past experiences at dealership: Slow work, lack of parts, retaliation.
Ride smoothness
The ride is busy. Bumps are noisy (boomy). The car drones like a cave when going over bumps. Small bumps or uneven surfaces can be especially jarring. Steering wheel can fight back.
