Introduction

Car with high promise, but has failed to deliver on the reliability front. Interior build quality and paint are extremely disappointing.

Why the 2008 Honda Civic?

Controls and instruments

Driver-centric controls are easy to use and intuitive. No small buttons that require you to remove your eyes from the road. High-mounted digital speedometer is particularly useful and appreciated.

Fuel economy

Consistently returns 30 to 40 mpg with performance tires on a high traffic / high speed commute.

Why Not the 2008 Honda Civic?

Materials & workmanship

Small items throughout the interior have fallen apart. Rear luggage hooks, handbrake cover, auxiliary input jack, and sun-visors have all failed or are in-process. Center brake-light has also failed. Paint is thin, chips easily, and has degraded quickly. 4.5 years in to ownership the atomic blue paint is in far worse condition than our 11 year old Ford Explorer.

Quietness

Significant road noise is present when driving over any surface at 45 mph+. Noise makes it difficult to hold a conversation on coarse asphalt.

Cargo capacity

Subwoofer protrudes into trunk making usable opening far smaller than is visually apparent.

Dealer practices

Honda dealer network attempts to charge significant amounts for changing trivial items (filters).
