2002 Mazda Protege Pros and Cons Member6428 This car is much louder than it should be on the highway. Coming from a Civic, this has been a long-term disappointment. The lack of sound insulation is exacerbated by a too-low fifth gear, which has the engine revving higher than necessary at 65-70 mph. |

Owning this car is an exercise in need vs. want. 2002 Mazda Protege Pros and Cons ijbrekke This is a LOUD car. I've taken some of the interior apart and there is basically zero sound-deadening material installed from the factory. Nearly everyone that rides in the car comments on how much road and engine noise there is. Not a great car for extended highway trips. |

2003 Mazda Protege5 2003 Mazda Protege Pros and Cons Official TrueDelta review by Michael Karesh Wind, road, and engine noise are all high. Current (2012) compact cars tend to be much quieter inside.
