55000 US $125 Engine whine noise. Mechanic says it's either a valve or valves that need adjustment, or it's something in the timing-belt mechanism. Will pursue a repair in the not-too-distant future. Clutch squeak mentioned to shop, but shop didn't fix while car was in for service. I later repaired the squeak myself by lubricating part of the clutch mechanism.
