Reviewed: 2006 Subaru Legacy

4dr Wagon 175-horsepower 2.5L H4 4-speed shiftable automatic AWD

Why the 2006 Subaru Legacy?

Cargo capacity

One of the only reliable true wagons available in the U.S. Plenty of room for cargo, especially with the easy to fold rear seats.

Reliability & durability

0

Fuel economy

Better than expected especially for a heavy AWD wagon.

Safety & braking

Best in class crash test scores. Good brake feel and the AWD is a big plus in foul weather.

Handling

Very little body lean with precise linear steering. Feels more german than japanese.

Why Not the 2006 Subaru Legacy?

Powertrain performance

Ye olde 4 speed transmission is slow to react and has a hard time choosing the right gear. Shifts are often abrubt and unexpected. Engine runs out of steam at around 35mph.

Audio & nav systems

No MP3 or auxillary input, tinny sound, and unintuitive controls.
