Why the 2012 Subaru Legacy?

Handling

Very responsive when maneuvering thru city traffic. Nice chassis balance, adequate acceleration, excellent brakes, comfortable controlled ride.

Interior styling

Ergonomics great once all controls are located. Small touches enjoyable -- for example, visor extensions and lights on the bottom of the front doors so that the ground is illuminated when one gets in or out. Good range of seating positions for driver.

Rear seat room & comfort

Wide rear door openings make ingress & egress from back seat very easy. Commodious rear seat room.

Powertrain performance

Engine /transmission combination provide smooth acceleration. Cruising is relaxed.

Reliability & durability

We keep cars for 10 years or more. I expect to drive this one for the next 15.

Why Not the 2012 Subaru Legacy?

Cargo capacity

Limited trunk space with a relatively small opening for access.

Controls and instruments

Some controls are very small an difficult to distinguish from one another -- for example, the trunk release and the hill holder are both rectangular buttons to the left and below the steering wheel with tiny icons on them.

I agree with above comments & add this: the 3.6 engine is a real powerhouse & the car feels more solid than the 4 cylinder. However, the service manager treats me like a crank because my wife & I hear a noise when the air conditioner is working. And--this is a big one--they can't figure out why the car vibrates at 62-67mph. After road force balancing & tire rotations, he told me to ignore the vibration.
