Reviewed: 2007 Toyota Camry

4dr Sedan 158-horsepower 2.4L I4 5-speed automatic FWD

Why the 2007 Toyota Camry?

Reliability & durability

Car is reliable. Currently have 48,000 miles with virtually zero repairs to date.

Materials & workmanship

All materials appear to be good quality and well put together

Rear seat room & comfort

Rear seat is large and lots of leg room. Nice feature is the center armrest, which many cars in this price range do not have.

Quietness

Car is fairly quiet on the highway, although the engine is somewhat noisy when accelerating heavily. My 2003 Camry (same engine) was much quieter. Toyota cheapened this car by taking out sound deadening materials. Old Camry was quiet like a Cadillac.

Why Not the 2007 Toyota Camry?

Powertrain performance

This car has the worst 5 speed automatic transmission. Jerky during highway driving when going up or down the slightest hill. You do not notice this around town, so if you test drive, make sure you get on a highway at 65 mph and use the cruise control.

Front seat support & comfort

These seats seem to have been designed for someone 250 pounds. Wide, flat, and no proper support for your back. While this has a lumbar support for the driver, the poor seat design makes this uncomfortable for long trips.

Dealer practices

Toyota dealer is arrogant and basically tells me the car is operating "as designed". I also complained to Toyota about the transmission, and they sent me right back to the dealer. No resolution --- guess what --- this car is now history!

Exterior styling

Front end looks goofy with a point snout. Reminds me of a beluga whale. Looks like all other cars on the road. Bland, bland, bland.

Handling

Car is easy to operate, but sporty handling in non-existant. This could best be described as driving a double bed down the road.
