Reviewed: 2005 Toyota Corolla

4dr Sedan 170-horsepower 1.8L I4 6-speed manual FWD

Why the 2005 Toyota Corolla?

Handling

Capable factory anti sway bars front and back, appropriate tires and wheel size and good shocks make handling at speed and on twisties quite enjoyable. Car feels well-balanced for a FF layout, and torque steer is manageable with only ~160BHP.

Front seat support & comfort

Bolstering and grippy fabric. None of the rat hair from the base.

Why Not the 2005 Toyota Corolla?

Fuel economy

The gearing which keeps the engine in its power band keeps it at 4k RPM on the highway (I go fast). 30MPG on premium fuel is not justified by the modest increase in power.

Rear seat room & comfort

The design of the front seats makes it difficult to get four normally proportioned adults into a car which looks like it would accomodate them. The bolstering in the back makes the five-seater only take four.
