Toyota Tacoma Reliability and Durability: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2011 4dr Crew Cab 6ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
Good reputation for reliability - most known issues are minor and the 2011 is far enough into the 2nd Gen to have most resolved.
2008 4dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
Toyota has a great reputation for building quality vehicles with low repair rates.
2007 4dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 159-horsepower 2.7L I4
5-speed manual RWD
They are top notch according to Consumer reports. I compared all trucks before buying, the Tacoma came in #1.
2007 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
It always started
2007 2dr Regular Cab 6ft bed 159-horsepower 2.7L I4
5-speed manual RWD
Takes a beating. Uses regular gas. Easy maintainance. 4cyl runs forever.
2007 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic RWD
I have over 31K miles and never been into the dealership
2007 2dr Regular Cab 6ft bed 159-horsepower 2.7L I4
5-speed manual RWD
Toyota makes some of the best I4 engines out there. I wanted an engine and drive train that would be trouble free for years.
2007 2dr Regular Cab 6ft bed 159-horsepower 2.7L I4
4-speed automatic RWD
Hopefully very few repairs over the next 200K miles vs. a ford ranger.
2007 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic RWD
To date I have 31K miles on the taco with NO PROBLEMS! It gets excellent fuel economy for a 6,000lb pickup truck.
2007 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
After 10,000 miles, no problems to report so far.

My Tacoma front axe had to be replaced at 15k. Rear differential started to go at 29k, and eventually went out at 34k. Rear leafspring snapped in half at 38k. Toyota told me to kick rocks. transmission actec funky when shifting. and more to the list.

What Our Members Are Saying about the Reliability and Durability of the Mazda Mazda6

Mazda Mazda6 Reliability and Durability: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2011 0 I bought this car with all the bells and whistles - luxury package, remote start, navigation system, scuff plates, mud plates, trunk spoiler, etc. Within the first week I owned this$50,000 car,the trunk had filled with water during a rain storm. Apparently the dealer installed atapered grommet upside down when installing the spolier. That wasonly the beginning. In the 2 years I owned that car I went through 3 batteries (the shop actually told me I had to disconnect the battery if I wasn't going to drive the car for a few days?!?), a broken cover underneath the car(apparently held in place with cheap plastic clips) and some wiring issueswhich caused the transmission to lock up. Mazda roadside assistance was useless. I called them when my car wouldn't start but I was too far away from the dealer for them to help. When I was stranded in Southern Ontario on avacation with family (wiring problem caused the engine light to come on)they could not help because I was apparently to far from the nearest dealer. Actually, theydid offer totow me up to 100 kmbut expected me to pay the rest out of pocket (I live 3 hours from the dealer in Thunder Bay). Also, the navigation system was out of date from the moment I bought the car (especially for areas near Sudbury) and when I asked the dealer(Target Motors in Thunder Bay) for upgrades they told me they were so expensive they didn't keep them in stock and I would have to pay. On a more petty note, they also ripped me off on a 12$ paint stick. There was no end to thebad dealings I had with this car...In the end, I decided to to a huge financial loss on this car and got rid of it! I will never, ever buy a Mazda and warn anyone againstdoing business with Target Motors in Thunder Bay! I have only sharedthe highlights here...
2008 4dr Hatch 212-horsepower 3.0L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
The car is over 2 yrs old now with close to 30,000 miles with no unscheduled maintenance. The car has been very reliable
2007 4dr Sedan turbocharged 270hp 2.3L I4
6-speed manual AWD
One rear shock started leaking at about 85k, which necessitated replacing both of course. The engine stumbles sometimes when accelerating from a steady criuse - can hear what I presum is the waste gate banging like a machine gun. No error codes and the Mazda dealership I go to has no clue as far as I can tell. I have been impressed with Mazda reliability but with many computers, differentials and complexity galore I may not own this one into late middle age.
2007 4dr Sedan 156-horsepower 2.3L I4
6-speed manual FWD
Nothing has gone wrong so far...
2007 4dr Wagon 212-horsepower 3.0L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Car has been very reliable.
2006 4dr Sedan turbocharged 274hp 2.3L I4
6-speed manual AWD
The Speed6 has been very reliable, no major repairs, even under warranty. Have an intermittent front suspension squeak with the upper and lower control arms, just haven't had it fixed yet since it's harmless. Brakes and clutch are original.
2006 4dr Sedan turbocharged 274hp 2.3L I4
6-speed manual AWD
In 25K miles, I experienced one check engine light, and a powerloss issue once that was corrected with a recall. Most reliable car I ever owned.
2005 4dr Hatch 160-horsepower 2.3L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Have owned for over 4 years, 100k miles now, with no major problems.

2007 4dr Sedan 156-horsepower 2.3L I4
5-speed shiftable automatic FWD
19 problems in 14 months (4 major)
2007 4dr Wagon 212-horsepower 3.0L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Had a problem where the suspension would make a creeking sound while turning the steering wheel at slow (parking lot) speeds. Internet research turned up a few similar problems. Our problem was successfully diagnosed as a bushing problem in a lower control arm. I expect that I will need motor mounts replaced sooner-rather-than-later as well.
2007 4dr Sedan 156-horsepower 2.3L I4
5-speed shiftable automatic FWD
I have 18 warranty claims in the first year of ownership. Problems started after 6 months (10K miles) of ownnership.
2006 4dr Sedan turbocharged 274hp 2.3L I4
6-speed manual AWD
Far too many horror stories about the engine throwing a rod, with or without modifications. Also, many turbos are known to smoke, but Mazda does nothing about the situation.
2004 4dr Sedan 160-horsepower 2.3L I4
5-speed manual FWD
interior out of cheap plastic that easily scratches, seat foam partially collapsed, annual caliper lube required, bought the car as a 5year lease return w/ 84 000 km, now getting close to 9years 135 000km, replaced suspension bushings/ball joints from day1, clutch at 125k, no holes yet but plenty of rust, haven't been able to track down a couple of noises, might have been there since new, doing almost as much work on the car as on my 19year old 340 000km Volvo 850 though the Volvo is easier & more fun to work on, this Mazda isn't designed to receive any more than the most urgent maintenance with a design lifespan around 10years/250 000km, whichever comes 1st...
