Volvo makes accessories specifically for dogs.

Front seat support & comfort

Can travel for hours without feeling need to stop and stretch. Seat heaters are great too.

Exterior styling

Black bumpers and increased ride height nicely differentiate XC70. Also saves on paintwork from dog scratches.

Ride smoothness

Smooth enough to prevent dogs from puking! Previous Mercedes SUV was a fail in this category.

Driving position & visibility

Few blind spots.

Fuel economy

Bit low for such modest power but car is heavy.

Handling

Suspension is set for smooth ride at expense of handling. This should not be a surprise.

Reliability & durability

Warranty repairs have been more than expected. Worse than a BMW, much better than a Mercedes. Question on long term durability of transmission which is bad for a car with reputation for 250K + miles.
