2014 This year every Mazda6 has a 184-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine under its hood. The 2013's less powerful (170hp) 2.5-liter four managed only 21 mpg city, 30 highway. The 2014 does far better: 26/38 with the automatic transmission and 25/37 with the manual. When fitted with a 178-horsepower 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and manual transmission, the Ford Fusion earns identical EPA ratings. An Accord with a 189-horsepower 2.4-liter and manual transmission checks in lower, 24/34. In real world driving, the trip computer reported averages in the 30s--and as high as 38--in casual suburban driving and about 36 on a 70-mph highway. With such impressive numbers, I'm tempted to place fuel economy higher in the reasons to buy a Mazda6. see full Mazda Mazda6 review

6-speed manual FWD		 I've been averaging over 30 mpg per tank at the pump. Computer usually 1mpg too generous. On some trips I've seen 40 mpgs. My is MT and it is rated considerably lower than AT. But in my book it is good since I've done same mileage in my 2011 Mazda3, which also was noisier, less comforting and generally, smaller car with smaller engine. 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD		 This vehicle is a petrol automatic and the fuel economy is not too bad - around town its pretty good but out on the Motorway at 70 - 80 mph it is hardly any better than my previous 15 year old Volvo S80 petrol automaticwhich had a 5 cylinder 2.4 litre (this is a 2.0 litre less powerful engine) and weighed an awful lot more. Its giving aroun 40 mpg. The istop system seems to be a waste of money - it saves virtually nothing, you have to press hard on the brake pedal to make it work and the miles its claims to have saved are minimal - about 20 in 8,000. see full Mazda Mazda6 review

Its a petrol automatic and if I do half a tank of fuel on Motorways with the speedo at 80 - 85 and the rest of the tank around town I will see 40 MPG. 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD		 Fuel economy is good but not as good as Mazda claims, in 9 months I'm averaging about 28 MPG combined in 60/40 city to highway driving and now in the winter months here in Minnesota, where you need to let the vehicle warm up for a minute or two in cold weather conditions and using winter gas. 2015 Though as powerful as the 170-horse 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine it replaced, and stronger through the midrange, the Passat's new 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine earns significantly better EPA fuel economy ratings: 24 mpg city and 35 mpg highway vs. 22 and 32, respectively. Fitted with the six-speed automatic transmission, the difference widens: 24/36 vs. 22/31. Alas, the Mazda6 scores a bit higher: 25/37 with a six-speed manual and 26/38 with a six-speed automatic. In my real-world driving, I observed similar numbers in both cars, and the Passat managed the highest observed one-time average on my standard route to my son's school: 39.9 mpg. The Mazda's best on this route was 38. More typically I observed averages in the low 30s when driving both cars casually in the suburbs. Push them, and averages can fall into the mid-20s, even the low-20s. On the highway, the Passat's trip computer reported an average of 35, the Mazda6's an average of 36. Too close to call. What is clear is that both sedans deliver much better fuel economy than could be expected when the current Passat was introduced three years ago. This said, those seeking to maximize fuel economy, and who drive enough miles to offset a higher initial cost, have an even better option in the Passat's available diesel engine. The TDI engine has been further improved for 2015. It now peaks at 150 horsepower rather than 140. And it now rates 30/44 mpg with a six-speed manual transmission and 30/42 with a six-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission; plus owners often beat the EPA ratings. see full Volkswagen Passat review

2019 0 As mentioned previously, the Passant starts in second gear unless you push down hard on the accelertor. Since most of the time I did not do that, I got outsanding gas mileage with my just over 500 miles of driving this past week. I averaged 28 mpg. This includes 30 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg in modest city driving. Overall quite good gas mileage in the warm Florida weather. The EPA estimate for this car is much higher 25 city, 36 highway. To be honest, I never came close to averaging 36 on the highway but then again, I had to run the AC heavily in the Florida heat and the speed limit is 70 mph (I averaged 74 mph). Perhaps the EPA testing was done in Washington DC where they don't need to run the AC as much as I had to and the EPA tests are done at 55 mph? In any case, this gas mileage is quite good for a car this size and I had no issues with it.
