On a recent trip from Charlottetown, PE, Canada to Halifax, NS my car averaged 35 miles per US gallon, or over 730km per tank of fuel. As a Merchandiser, my job requires a lot of city Driving and I average 600km per tank of gas see full Mazda Protege review
2003 4dr Sedan turbocharged 170hp 2.0L I4

2003 4dr Sedan 130-horsepower 2.0L I4

Great fuel economy my first tank was 28mpg, my second one with my cold air intake installed got it over 30! see full Mazda Protege review
2003 4dr Wagon 130-horsepower 2.0L I4
5-speed manual FWD
The car does get excellent fuel economy- IF you can keep your foot out of it. I rarely succeed in that endeavor- the car is just too much fun to drive, the embodiment of "driving a slow car, fast." see full Mazda Protege review
2003 4dr Sedan 130-horsepower 2.0L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
Great fuel efficiency but still retains a lot of pep and zip. see full Mazda Protege review
2003 4dr Wagon 130-horsepower 2.0L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Not too bad, the roof rack hurts it a bit. gets a solid 22-25 driving 70-75 on highway. Does get 30mpg at 60 mph, but that speed will get you killed on California interstates. see full Mazda Protege review
2003 4dr Wagon 130-horsepower 2.0L I4

2002 4dr Wagon 130-horsepower 2.0L I4

I average right around 30mpg with mixed driving, a little highway-biased. I've been satisfied with the overall gas mileage. see full Mazda Protege review
2002 4dr Wagon 130-horsepower 2.0L I4

Mazda Protege Real Gas Mileage: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2003 4dr Wagon 130-horsepower 2.0L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Suburban fuel economy is acceptable, at nearly 30 mpg. But on the highway, with the engine spinning well over 3,000 rpm, fuel economy also struggles to crack 30. Many much larger, much more powerful cars achieve better highway fuel economy. Some owners have fitted the fifth gear from the related transmission in the Mazda6 to get more of an overdrive. see full Mazda Protege review
2003 4dr Wagon 130-horsepower 2.0L I4
4-speed shiftable automatic FWD
not good for a small 4 cyl. i have had better economy on the same roads with bigger and simmilar cars see full Mazda Protege review
2003 4dr Wagon 130-horsepower 2.0L I4
5-speed manual FWD
Gets below avaerage mileage for a car this size/ engine/ trans. see full Mazda Protege review
2001 4dr Sedan 103-horsepower 1.6L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
It was significantly lower than Toyota or Honda at the time. see full Mazda Protege review

What Our Members Are Saying about the Real Gas Mileage of the Nissan Z

Nissan Z Real Gas Mileage: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2011 2dr Hatch 332-horsepower 3.7L V6
7-speed shiftable automatic RWD
I recommend changing your oil as soon as you get the car with basic 5w30 oil. Then @ 1200 miles use the nissan ester oil. @ 5000 miles switch again to a premium synthetic. Redline, Royal purple & amsoil. Engine will run supersmooth with 23mpg avg. see full Nissan Z review
2011 2dr Hatch 332-horsepower 3.7L V6
6-speed manual RWD
Reasonable fuel economy considering the 332 hp and 270 ft lbs of torque available. see full Nissan Z review
2007 2dr Hatch 306-horsepower 3.5L V6
6-speed manual RWD
If I shift between 2k to 2.5k, I get about 22mpg city and 27 mpg hwy. If I shift at 4.5k rpm (which I mostly do) I get about 16 mpg city and 20 mpg hwy. see full Nissan Z review
2007 2dr Convertible 306-horsepower 3.5L V6
5-speed shiftable automatic RWD
Very Good and exactly as projected with pump fuel 93. Higher octane race fuel affords better mileage ,as with any vehicle proper maintenence ensuring air filters are clean . I change my oil every 3-5 000 miles and I love this car see full Nissan Z review
2007 2dr Hatch 306-horsepower 3.5L V6

2011 2dr Hatch 332-horsepower 3.7L V6

2007 2dr Hatch 306-horsepower 3.5L V6

It was worse than my 303 hp 5.3L V8 Grand Prix, and though it was faster off the line (by about .3 seconds), the Grand Prix GXP was much faster in highway gears. So better MPG and more juice at highway speeds made the GP a better choice for me. see full Nissan Z review
2007 2dr Hatch 306-horsepower 3.5L V6

it is a sports car see full Nissan Z review
2004 2dr Hatch 287-horsepower 3.5L V6
6-speed manual RWD
This car's fuel economy shows how much the world has moved forward with regards to fuel management. My commute is pretty much 50/50 city/highway, and I get 19-22 MPG on average depending on weather and A/C usage. My best tanks were in the 26-27 MPG range on those long trips to NY/FL. For reference, a 335i makes more power and probably averages about 22-24 MPG in mixed driving and can get over 30 MPG no problem on the highway. When you drive ~25000 miles a year that definitely adds up. see full Nissan Z review
2004 2dr Hatch 287-horsepower 3.5L V6
5-speed shiftable automatic RWD
You have to drive like a grandma to get the estimated gas mileages. more realistically you are looking at 15-19mpg average, totally dependant upon how you drive. see full Nissan Z review
2003 2dr Hatch 287-horsepower 3.5L V6
5-speed shiftable automatic RWD
You might not care about fuel economy in a sports car, but as my daily driver I spend about $200/mo in gas. see full Nissan Z review
2003 2dr Hatch 287-horsepower 3.5L V6

it can get low when driven the way its meant to be driven (under 20) but if your just cruising it can get about 27-28 see full Nissan Z review
