Hybrid battery cooling fan failure; short in remote wires. |
136800 mi | A coolant control valve needs replacement and throws a specific trouble code, but I've chosen to live with it (will repair eventually) as it doesn;t really affect the car's performance. It's the engine coolant; code is P1121; for a "secondary" tank that helps the engine warm up faster (hence why it's a non-essential repair). |
207000 mi US $80 |
Got the red triangle of doom. ECU gave an HV battery code. Checked and one pair (block) was 1V low. Bought used pair for 80 and swapped them in. Edit - After doing a few of these, I'd say it's doable in 6+ hours by yourself, but you definitely need something to help compress the modules in the pack so you can install the bolts on the pack's underside. I use wooden boards of differing widths and a couple wood clamps. If someone is helping you out and they're reasonably handy, you might be able to do this in 3-4 hours. |
208000 mi US $100 |
Another battery module went sideways, but this time it threw one of the "block XX becomes weak" because the module was weak, but hadn't failed (internal short) yet. I had picked up another 2007 Prius from a friend for $1500, so I PNO'ed this Prius and have been driving that since. I have a few decent modules I purchased off ebay to swap into the pack, but I'm planning to pull it and do some thorough testing and possibly rehydrating to see if that improves the pack's performance. TODO - Pull pack, cycle/measure battery modules, try to rehydrate modules with limited capacity, cycle/test those modules again, reassemble, test how the pack does in the car. |
