2013 Subaru Outback 4dr Wagon

173-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD

67000 mi Oil pressure came on twice within two hours on June 25th. Technicians found it was short by about 1 quart of oil. The vehicle is currently undergoing an oil consumption test for the next 1200 miles. The test is no cost to me because it is covered under a class action suit against Subaru concerning certain vehicles have been found to consume oil excessively. If my vehicle fails the consumption test, then Subaru will replace the engine at no cost, and provide a free loaner.

30000 mi Oil consumption. Subaru would not warranty repair a car that burned 1 quart of oil less than every 3K miles. Additional issue with radio.
23400 mi Appeared to be burning 2 quarts of oil over the 7,000 mile oil change interval. However once the oil was changed I have since driven the vehicle for over 5,000 miles and the engine oil is about 2/3 of a quart low... Reasonable.
15000 mi Chirping noise from engine. Turned out to be bad idler pulley. The dealer replaced both idler pulleys and the serpentine belt.
45000 mi Engine light indicating low oil turns on. Oil change at 42K, low engine oil light turned on at 44K, 45K, 46K, 47K. Service advisor advises that TSB indicates Subaru is prone to burning oil, recommends oil change at 6K interval ILO 7.5K.
109000 mi

US $850
Replaced engine and transmission mounts
32800 mi Noticed excessive oil consumption similar to other reports by Subaru owners. The low oil level light came on after about 4000 miles since previous oil changed. Haven't had previous issues, but could be related to bad piston rings.
59000 mi Engine found to be leaking oil. Camshafts had to be resealed/repaired. Found by inspecting before 60K mile mark, so repair still covered by powertrain warranty.
110000 mi

US $800
Had another oil leak which was due to another o-ring failure- the same issue that was “fixed” at 59,000. Everything was out of pocket this time.
12000 mi Squeaky belt was replaced under warranty. Service manager said they had several 2013 with the same issue. Said they had to replace tensioners on some, but mine were still good.
34500 mi Oil consumption is awful. Between 1500 miles and 2500 miles I have had to add a quart of oil since car was new. Dealer says I have to come back periodically for Oil Consumption Test. In the end I COULD get a new engine.
