The trip to the shop was initially just for maintenance prior to a 4k mile road trip. The mechanic identified that the car was burning oil due to a clogged oil filter housing, sometimes known as an oil trap or PCV system, which needed replacement. The mechanic said this was due to the 10k mile oil change interval suggested by Volvo. They suggested changing to a 5k mile OCI to prevent the problem. They also noted that many Volvos need this service around 100k miles. |
