Subaru rear vehicle detection system went offline for 2nd time. This is rear-facing radar units to detect cars in blind spots. Subaru TSB 07-90-15, released 04/22/2015, calls for replacement of both radar units with new model. Dealer did this. Of note, the first time same problem occurred, dealer "reprogrammed" unit even though service bulletin had been released mandating new parts. If you have this problem, look up TSB and have dealer repair at no charge.

Car has had repeated bouts of not starting/battery dying to the point I carry a charger in the car. The dealer repeatedly checks the battery and says everything is fine (while rolling their eyes at me). It's not until I started looking at other cars on TrueDelta that I've discovered this is a widespread problem that people are having. Subaru is NOT being proactive on solving it. The automatic tailgate stopped working. It wouldn't work with the remote, the inside button, or the button on the tailgate. It stopped working for 5 days. When I went to take it into the shop, it started working. They said it wasn't a problem. I decided between battery death and the ghost in the tailgate, to trade the car in. Subaru was NOT interested in determining the problem, AND my warranty was expiring and they didn't want to note these problems for later repair. Bye Buy Subaru. Bought a Toyota.

Drive axles damaged due to loose motor mount (missing bolt) resulted in heavy vibration under acceleration. Loose mount likely due to an engine swap by a previous dealer, but car was purchased used so true history is unknown. Ride axle seal on diff also leaking. Heavy vibration persisted. Took it back and the dealer put it on a lift and loaded the wheels to simulate loaded suspension and notice the rear carrier bearing was out of round and the rear driveshaft was binding under load causing the vibration. Heard a strange noise from under the front of the auto when putting into reverse in the garage at home after sitting overnight. It would last about a second. It was intermittent, not every time and, of course, would not do it at the dealer.
Oct 2017

35000 mi
An area under the engine compartment was making a noise before engaging reverse after being parked overnight in the garage at home. This happened intermittently. The dealer could not find the problem after several days. During the time it was in the garage, the 2018 Outback Premium 2.5i they loaned us had a smoother and quieter transmission. It also did not lurch when first engaging the accelerator in drive like our 2015 Outback Premium 2.5i does. The automatic lane change sensor would self-defeat intermittently. We were told there were no software problems and likely due to the sensors covered with moisture during the wet conditions at the time. Has not replicated since it has been dry.
Mar 2018

40000 mi
An annoying intermittent tone that interrupted the audio would not stop. After several weeks trying to hope it would stop or figure it out, we took it to the Subaru dealer. It took them several hours to diagnose it, then releasing it to us to drive home. They said there was a setting in the navigation we were unaware of that was causing the noise. We were not a block down the street leaving the dealership that we heard the noise again, as before. So we took it right back. After a few more hours, they said they did a software update. The display has changed some as a result. The noise is gone. There was no recall nor bulletin regarding this issue.

Started hearing clicking sounds at the front left wheel while turning left a couple months ago. This was from starting from a stop, like turning onto another road with medium to hard acceleration. I lived with it while it progressively got a little worse, and then I started hearing when turning right as well. I visually inspected the CV boot and found no rips. So I brought it in to the Dealer, and they replaced the worn axle under warranty. No Charge.

The windshield has a 20 inch crack; there is no chip in the glass and I don't remember anything hitting the windshield. The crack began at the glue edge. It may be a stress crack associated with the new acoustic windshield (new for 2015). The car slow cranked a couple of times and the time on the car clock went forward 4 hours. Subsequently the car would not start for an hour; time on the car clock went forward 4 hours. Subaru mechanic was unable to identify problem. My car would not start if the engine was hot. The Subaru mechanic determined the battery was not charging under full load.
