US $110
OEM battery died at 2 years and replaced with a much higher aftermarket CCA battery. My other 2016 Mazda's battery is registering low too so the low CCA OEM batteries seem to be very low quality.
12000 mi Had dealer install latest software update for infotainment system in hopes that it would fix slow and flaky performance with Bluetooth. Unfortunately while things are a bit faster, it still runs poorly overall.
14500 mi Another software update for Mazda Connect. Incrementally better but still bad overall.
17000 mi Yet another update for Mazda Connect, and yet again it slightly changes the appearance but doesn't fix the problems. Very disappointed with Mazda.
20000 mi Passenger side door lock was making noise when actuating. Replaced under Goodwill warranty. Dealer finally determined that navigation SD card was bad and causing most of the issues with infotainment. Card was replaced and it's working better. Still not great but at least it isn't crashing every day.
27000 mi Driver's door open/close sensor is intermittently broken. The car will often think the door is closed when it's actually open.
28000 mi LED DRLs both failed. *Very* expensive to replace but fortunately there was a service campaign.
32000 mi Driver's door open/close sensor will often indicate that the door is closed even when open. The vehicle has auto lock and will lock the door and set the alarm with things still open. Dealer could not diagnose the problem and didn't fix it.
89000 mi

US $1200
I opted NOT to have the work done. LED DTR on drivers side went bad. Dealer quoted $1,200 to fix. Opted to buy a new 2018 Mazda with Costco pricing!
15200 mi

US $100
Real time mpg reading was broken. The readings were jumping around randomly. Dealer did something to fix it, not sure if anything was replaced or not.
22500 mi

US $45
battery dead. replaced under warranty.
45754 mi Left headlight began to fail. Once brought in for repair, it was discovered that there was an active RECALL and both headlights were replaced free of charge.
65100 mi

C $250
Needed new Battery
300 mi The optional navigation system did not work. Dealer installed SD chip with Navigation was not installed correctly.
3000 mi

US $1200
ground issue
The in dash GPS system would not respond correctly to voice commands, was missing street info and periodically would go blank. Resetting the GPS did not help. Dealer advised a map update but this has not resolved the problem. Issue ongoing.

16700 mi Front tire pressure sensor went bad. Took the dealer four tries to reset the sensor. The first three times they did not attempt to reset it and told me they did reset the sensor. Very frustrating.

Mazda has a problem and they know it, but to date, they have not issued a recall for this widespread problem. Like many other CX-5 owners, the DRL LEDs in both my headlight assemblies failed just out of warranty. This is a known problem amongst CX-5 owners online; Mazda will not admit as such, however. But, my service advisor said differently: "Yes, these fail all the time. That's why we keep them in stock." Update: Mazda finally issued a recall for this issue in early 2020. After a brief visit to the dealership to inspect the previous repair, they reimbursed me the entire amount I paid for this repair in Sept 2018. The Mazda Customer Experience Center handled this entire situation with great professionalism and excellent customer service. Anyway, I was able to get Mazda to goodwill about $1400 of the $2500 total cost (parts, labor) of the repair. This took quite a bit of back-and-forth with their "Customer Experience Center." I do have to say that the person I worked with at Mazda was really helpful through the whole process. Also, I figured that if Mazda ever does initiate a recall, I will be reimbursed what I spent, and if they don't, I probably was never going to get as good of an offer as this one, anyway. My (new) DRLs are unplugged to prevent this happening again. I'd rather have functional DRLs that I can plug in if I need to than 2x $1000 paperweights on the front of my vehicle.
39000 mi

US $85
OEM battery failed. Replaced.
104000 mi The camera for the rear view had failed two or three times. I reported this to the dealer, they did a systems test which they say had validated my complaint. A new part was ordered and subsequently installed under warranty. With work completed, camera view is enhanced and is working without interruption.
30000 mi A/C blower motor replacement under warranty.
14000 mi mis-function of damper controls (buttons) not actual damper motor. Dealer svc tech attempted to free buttons but unsuccessful. Dlr ordered replacement from Pennsylvania warehouse.
39000 mi Defective dash panel AC & blower mode push buttons replaced. Dealer tried to claim that some drink/liquid was the cause but, after a threat of lawyer intervention he replaced. There was never a spill; Poughkeepsie service manager is a scammer.
22000 mi Mode buttons replaced
43000 mi

US $90
Right headlight replacement due to LED fade.
1000 mi Navigation/Audio system would crash and not reboot without shutting car down for 30 minutes, then restarting. Dealer installed a software update (version 55.000) for the infotainment system. This problem began to occur on day 1 of ownership.
12300 mi Smart City Brake System developed a fault, the dash light was illuminated warning that the system was malfunctioning. Tech said it was due to a "low voltage event" but nothing needed to be replaced. Battery checked out good. Code was cleared.
34100 mi

C $300
Failure on driver's door lock to be repaired. Car will lock and unlock itself on it's own.

7000 mi Passenger air bag recall
19000 mi

US $249
after previous issue with no start and AAA called to start car, took to dealer, dealer said battery was OK....however, car would start slowly, i coughed up the money out of my own pocket for a new battery, and guess what...car starts like it was new. I still feel, battery was weak even though it showed to be OK....did not want to get stranded, which I would have to have this happen 2 more times to fight for a new battery under lemon law...no time for this crap. so just bought a new battery, but will remember this next time I am in market for a new car.
10000 mi Noisy heater/AC blower motor replaced under warranty. It was making a growling noise at low fan speeds. Replacement blower motor is quiet.
