Reviewed: 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

4dr Sedan 200-horsepower 3.5L V6 4-speed shiftable automatic FWD

Why the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?

Fuel economy

Last trip from Edmonton to Vancouver averaged 6.1L/100km. Best has been 5.9L/100km

Discounts & incentives

it was 0 down and 0% over 48mo

Price or payments

The price was over 10K less than Camry or Accord and actually had better safety and features.

Why Not the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?

Handling

Very mushy handly and lots of body roll. The rear suspension will sag after just 80lbs in the trunk. Have since replaced the rear shocks with Monroe Maxair from a 1990 Aerostar - run at 80psi.

Materials & workmanship

Most of the parts are made in Korea. The fuel sender unit had silver contacts and corroded after using high-sulphur cheap gas. Front struts are weeping.

Audio & nav systems

CD players skips after it gets warm.
