2014 Ford Fusion Pros and Cons at TrueDelta: Solid well-appointed commuter sedan by SPARTANVI
SPARTANVI
Traded my sports car (2014 Mustang GT, base) for a 1'4 Fusion Titanium (2.0L 1-4 Ecoboost, FWD) because I needed something familiar (i.e. Ford) with better technology, fuel economy, and comfortable seating for 4-5.
Enter the Fusion Titanium. I purchased it used from Beepi.com with just under 18,900 miles, for $24k out the door. It hits every requirement on my list and set the benchmark for accomodations, amenties, and overall value that I look for in my future vehicles.
We also have a 2014 BMW 328i M-Sport and the Fusion Titanium has almost all of the same luxury features, except it was half the price. A few things I'd like to see in Fusions going forward (if they haven't already added):
- Power folding side-view mirrors.
- Front parking sensors option (currently this is only available with the pricey active park assist package).
- Cooled seats option.
Over the year, I've had a couple of minor issues with my Fusion.
- The driver-side headlamp would flicker when the turn signal was engaged. Dealer repaired this at no cost with a BCM update.
- The navigation system randomly cannot locate me accurately. Have not brought this into the dealership recently since I use my phone for navigation anyway.
In terms of styling, the Fusion's front end proudly displays Ford's new "Aston Martin-esque" grille, which has permiated throughout their model line-up. The headlight size and angle give off an angry look, while the chrome treatments are just enough without looking tacky. The rear end could use some more work, even in the 2016+ models. I'm personally not a fan of the bulbous rear tail lights. In my opinion they look a bit dated compared to the sharper angles and lines present in the rest of the body.
Lastly, Ford needs to get rid of the dated antennae in favor of a sharkfin antennae. Luckily there are aftermarketsharkfin modifications available at etailers that clean up the profile and rear angles of the car.
The Fusion Titanium is truly a stylish and well-appointed sub-luxury vehicle without the luxury price or ego. This is a vehicle for someone who enjoys their creature comforts, modern technology, and aggressive style in a moderately affordable package.
