TrueDelta Reviews the Real Gas Mileage of the Hyundai Elantra GT

Hyundai Elantra GT Real Gas Mileage: Pros
YearComment
2013 Hyundai made the news a few months ago when it had to revise the EPA ratings for many of its cars. To their credit, they acted quickly, and are compensating previous buyers for the difference. Even with the downward revision, the Elantra GT is rated 26 mpg city (27 with the automatic) and 37 mpg highway. These figures are slightly better than those for the Ford Focus, but slightly worse than those for the Mazda3. see full Hyundai Elantra GT review
Hyundai Elantra GT Real Gas Mileage: Cons
YearComment
Hyundai's 201-horsepower turbocharged 1.6-liter engine doesn't perform nearly as well in the EPA's tests as the 205-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter engine in the Civic Si: 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway vs. 28 and 38, respectively. The far more potent 306-horsepower Civic Type R manages numbers virtually as good as the Hyundai's. You cannot get the Civic Si with a self-shifting transmission. Step down to the Civic Sport with a 180-horsepower 1.5T and a CVT for EPA ratings of 30 city and 36 highway, each four mpg higher that those of the Hyundai 1.6T-DCT combo. see full Hyundai Elantra GT review

Fuel economy is disappointing. We will be signing up for whatever lawsuit will get us the most money from Hyundai. We would much prefer that the car get the mileage that was advertised. see full Hyundai Elantra GT review

In mixed but somewhat city biased driving I have been getting 30+mpg. I haven't done any extensive highway driving at this time. see full Hyundai Elantra GT review

TrueDelta Reviews the Real Gas Mileage of the Dodge Durango

Dodge Durango Real Gas Mileage: Cons
YearComment
2006 Like the Durango SRT's key strength, it doesn't require the skills of Sherlock Holmes to detect the Dodge's primary weakness: its fuel economy. In the EPA's tests, the Durango SRT managed only 13 mpg city and 19 mpg highway. The trip computer typically reported 12 mpg in my suburban driving. Driving the brute like a Prius bumped the number all the way to 15 mpg. On the highway I observed as high as 20 mpg, again in line with the EPA rating. The Durango R/T manages a bit better, 14/22, putting it not far off the Explorer Sport's 16/22. But a Mercedes-AMG GLS63, with turbochargers to pack more fuel-air mixture into its cylinders, can guzzle even more than the Durango SRT: 13/17. If you want an ultra-quick three-row vehicle with outstanding fuel economy, you're currently limited to the Tesla. Though perhaps the plug-in hybrid Volvo XC90 T8's 26/30 is good enough? see full Dodge Durango review

Mileage is actually pretty good for an 8 person hauler, but compared to our old 5 passenger SUV we are giving up 2-3 MPG. Will know more after a couple more fill-ups for sure. see full Dodge Durango review
