Genesis ran Hot twice from 1000 mile trip, had to be towed to dealership, spent 5 days in shop..replaced radiatior and cooling fans and module.
The car's computer was defective. When I started the car it ran very roughly and with many warning lights. They picked it up on a flatbed. New computers were on backorder for a month.... they fixed under warranty and provided a loaner vehicle
Car shakes very noticeably at idle. Vibration is much reduced when turning off the A/C system. Worst when stopped in gear, but reproducible caused by A/C system being on (compressor?)
ECU was replaced due to random sensor alerts until the vehicle eventually would not start at all.
Mounting arm on Intake Resonator was broken where it mounts to the intake manifold. It is out of sight under the engine cover & went unnoticed until it tilted downward. Removal of the cover revealed the break. Probably broken from factory.
Faulty accelerator sensor
Car shifted rough, and Traction Light came on intermittently, along with missing outside temp data. Car was scanned for codes. Indicated malfunctioning Fuel Pump module. Module was replaced, and solved all of the reported issues.
Took car in for oil/filter change. Check Engine light also went on a few days before service. Fault log showed codes P2097 & P2099. They told me that my K&N air filter was too restrictive and caused the problem. Replaced w/OEM air filter.

Check engine light on. Check engine light blinks with engine shakes from time to time. Shop diagnosed and new spark plugs + ignition pack are installed.
Very strong fuel smell in garage during hot weather. No other vehicles have had this issue. Dealer unable to duplicate problem.
5.0 V8 has faulty piston rings. Multiple "oil consumption test" 1qt per 1000-1100 miles. Hyundai "claims" until oil consume goes <1k per qt, they do nothing. Many others have their 5.0 replaced w/far less oil consumption.
Engine consuming oil. ~1 QT per 2000 miles. Dealership is currenty performing an oil consumption test and advised me to use 5W/30 oil as opposed to the the recommended 5W/ 20

Fuel Tank not venting properly during fill-ups causing constant stops of gas pump.
Fuel filler air vent plugged, unable to add gas due to nozzle shutting down after each cupfull. Removed trunk liner to clean air vent.
The check engine light flashed intermittently. Dealer says problem was caused by use of a automobile radar detector. Dealer disconnected battery and reset auto.
Emission system. A valve was stuck open and caused a CEL

Gas tank carbon filter
car stalled out 6 times in one day while driving. It would start back up right away but stall again. Happened at low speed and high speed. Dealer could not replicate the problem
Engine check light stayed on. Dealer claimed there was a TSB (software upgrade) and that should probably resolve the issue.
Car would not start when very cold. Engine would crank but no start. As if no fuel or no spark. Had the throttle body replaced under warranty. Front cover as well as oil pan leaking oil! Had both gaskets and or silicon seals replaced to correct oil leaks. Both under warranty but not normal as far as I am concerned for such low mileage.

engine light on, dealer diagnosed as bad catalytic converter
Engine light came on. They replaced the sensor which apparently was a in a tech service bulletin.

Dealer has now confirmed rough idle at start up. a misfire on #1 and #3 cylinder. was going to change relay assy but did not. Dealer found contaminated fuel particles.
Continual Problem with Rough Idle, This time they removed the OCV valves and tested them, they seem to test okay but the restance levels were above normal. dealer does not want to replace, suggests removing gas tank and clean
Car shut off with the ESC, EPB, CEL. Threw code U0001 Loss connection with ECU, and U0100. Restarted in limp mode (3rd gear only). Fixed with new recall. Replaced brake switch, fuse and re-flash of the ECU.
Emission light on
In addition, there was a strange sound when the vehicle was cold, but seemed to lessen when warm. Dealer said normal. On my own found that one of the clips on the air box was hanging loose. Fastened it.
random misfire--from check engine light
The evaporative cable and canister failed.
Threw a Check engine code, cylinder misfire. No root cause found. Issue has not recurred.

The (drive shaft) vibration, reported since June continued. This visit, the drive shaft was replaced...but the vibration continues, though less noticeable. Also had to tighten bolts on steering box. Lubricated window tracks for rattles.

Engine was misfiring. Car was towed at no expense. Computer was updated with progam, had car back within a day. Car runs fine.

Oil Control Valve failed, check engine light came on. CVVT was not working till repair completed. 2nd engine related issue in 1 yr ownership, and I take excellent care of the car..above and beyond most owners.
Oil control valve failed again after 2 replacements... PCM failure (brain of the car) both replaced under warranty...check engine light on again 400 miles later.

Genesis 3.8 engine makes a harsh "rock-rock-rock-rock-rock" sound at about 2000 rpm under load. Several people have commented. I have a video on YouTube (search "Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Sound") documenting it. Two dealers--no help.
The engine imploded while driving on the freeway. It threw a rod and blew a hole in the engine block. This car was serviced regularly through a dealership and had just returned from servicing 2 weeks earlier.
Engine started with white smoke and severe noise. Restarted fine. Determined to be a valve problem. Replaced all hydraulic lifters and one valve, new timing chain tensioners.

Noisy engine - whining. Idler pulley replaced. Pulley replaced, but still whines.
Engine replaced. Short block. I complained about whining noise for 18 months, ever since they replaced a valve (no noise before repair). After we got into the extended warranty, they took the problem seriously. Noisy oil pump, metal in the oil pan.
V8 engine knocking; went away after 20 min.; Hyundai field engineers alerted.

This is my second trip to the dealer because my check engine light came on. The dealer informed me that it was a TSB or recall on the check engine light and informed me that the problem will be fixed. The dealership fixed the light. Check engine light came back on, and the dealer recognized it, but couldn't find a problem with the car. She said when you have a lot of electronics on a car this will normally happen.

Car developed a significant misfire. Spark plugs replaced, low compression on #8 cylinder. Fault was determined to be broken exhaust valve spring on #8 cylinder. Valve spring replaced, symptoms resolved
Engine check light came on...went to dealer. Reset light, tried to reproduce with no joy.
Hi idle sensor not functioning properly and was replaced which corrected the problem.
Engine would surge when idling and power would cut out when driving. Drove it to dealer and they replaced faulty fuel sensor.
Noise from what seemed like the accessory belt as well as erratic idle on startup only when ambiant temperature is less than 5 degrees celsius.

They replaced the throttle body per Hyundai's direction and that fixed the erratic idle at startup problem.
Squealing noise at start up. They replaced all the serpentine belt idlers including a $350 one that wasn't covered by the warranty. Fortunately for me the dealer picked up the cost.
header had rusted out and required replacement.

Transmission shifts poorly. This is a problem on all 3.8 Genesis because Hyundai met fuel mileage standards using the transmission rather than the engine. I'll never buy another one.

Loss of engine power when driving in hot weather (35+deg.C). Happened twice. First time was able to drive home. 2nd time needed dealer assistance. No obvious cause but they cleaned MAF. No problem since but also hasn't been as hot.
Steering wheel would not go to desired position automatically. Dealer could not fix problem,said it contact factory support and give me a call to return to fix the problem.
Repair shop [not dealer] overfilled crankcase. Oil control valve blew out. Dealer replaced under warranty.
code check revealed problem with mechanisms for handling oil flow in engine. Sensor replaced as well as another part; also sensor for exhaust regulation.
replace gaskets and seal on lower engine oil pan and timing chain housing. Tech said this was caused by substandard repair by earlier tech who replaced oil control valve at same dealer.
Throttle position sensor had failed and was replaced at the dealership under warranty. The car was still driveable, however the acceleration was erratic.
Fuel cap not sealing completely c/s engine light on. Replaced fuel cap and cleared code P0442. Performed Evap leak test. No leak present.
Oil changed by dealer at no cost to address valve/lifter clattering at startup
