Reviewed: 2008 Scion xB

4dr Hatch 158-horsepower 2.4L I4 4-speed shiftable automatic FWD

Why the 2008 Scion xB?

Powertrain performance

Responsive, sufficient acceleration, auto is smooth, shift to 3rd is helpful.

Rear seat room & comfort

More leg room than my SAAB 9000. Fits two adults and a kid seat.

Cargo capacity

Sufficient room without dropping the rear seat backs. Note: Towing not recommended by Scion. There are bolt on after market hitches available.

Handling

Electric steering is not dead as is some of the competition

Why Not the 2008 Scion xB?

Controls and instruments

There is no way to turn the headlights on/off with the engine. Even the Yaris has and auto position for the lights. If headlights are on in daytime smaller digital readouts are dimmed too much to be able to read.

Dealer practices

What is there to like about any auto dealer.

Driving position & visibility

A,B & C pillars way too big. Cowl design is not suited for winter. Ice and snow collects in the cowl drain wells and is difficult to clean out. Back wiper has no interment option and cleaned area is too small.
